Can you take tymlos and prolia

Posted by burrells5 @burrells5, Jan 10, 2024

Anyone on tymlos and prolia or switched to tymlos after prolia? I still have 3 months of prolia in me and 3 weeks ago started tymlos. New dr new everything and I don't know whether to trust her or not. I had 6 compression Fractures when I was off prolia for 3 months due to insurance. Will this happen again or will tymlos be a replacement. I also read tymlos doesn't work well after prolia??? She also says no need for blood test that I read lots of people have. No need for follow up dexa. How do I know is working?

@laujodrik what did you end up doing after stopping prolia? Did you take tymlos? I stopped taking Prolia 15 months ago because I didn’t know about rebound. My doctor suggested Tymlos but from what I read, it could do more harm good.
I’m really trying to avoid a reclast due to other medical conditions and possible side effects.

@punkratty you’re extremely lucky you didn’t get any fractures stopping Prolia for 15 months. I should ask you what you did. I had to stop it because of dental work. I went back on it after 4 months. My worst part are my forearms. The rest of me is osteopina. I was so frightened I’d get a spinal fracture. I’m not sure if you were on fosomax. I was so I couldn’t take it again. It’s very scary to stop these drugs. I try to work out though there’s no way of knowing what is good enough. I also continued on my vitamin d and calcium with magnesium and K. Let me know what you decide. Good luck.

I did get a compression fracture after lifting something that was much too heavy for me and tossing it in my car. It wasn’t as spontaneous fracture but nonetheless, it’s a fracture. I didn’t know what it was at the time but now I do. I don’t have any pain or tenderness anymore.

I didn’t take anything at all after Prolia. I’ve been taking 5000 IU of vitamin D with K2, magnesium, and other vitamins that may or may not indirectly help with bone health.

I’m considering taking Tymlos to see if it helps now that I am past the highest rebound phase. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll be forced to do Reclast and pray that I won’t have any long-term negative side effects.

How long have you been on prolia? It’s my understanding that Reclast is the only medication that can stop probably a rebound and if I’m not mistaken, should be taken within six months of your last dose of prolia.

I was told that any other class Tymlos, Forteo or recast can be taken 6 months after Prolia because the rebound should be over. Tymlos actually grows bone and should be very beneficial. Hopefully, you have good insurance. You give yourself a needle daily. When I was checking Tymlos out my Dr said you need to start very slowly though the pen only lasts one month. The goal is to put in I believe 8 clicks. She told me to start with 2 for the first week and build up from there. Some people stop at 6. All these meds have side effects which I hate. I’ve lost so much height about 3 inches from the osteoporosis. I have a disc that slid forward after exercising though I never broke anything. I have other issues which is very long to go in to snd can’t exercise like I used to which is scary. Why did you go off the Prolia? I have no side effects from it. I had to because of dental work like I said and was so frightened for months I’d fracture something. Let me know what you decide. You really need to do weight bearing exercises or walk up and down stairs to help your bone density.
