Can never clear throat after eating without cough drops
Hi,
I'm dealing with a major problem where after eating I absolutely can not seem to clear my throat without using cough drops. I'm about to slam head-first in to not having cough drops in maybe three days as I'm in a very difficult position. I'm for the moment, forced to rely on others as I'm making efforts to find work. Unfortunately it's just not happening fast enough.
The worst part is, while trying to ration cough drops I have woken up literally choking to death. I literally feel like I stopped breathing and the moment I violently regain consciousness I instinctively try to breathe in deeply but I hit a wall! I'm already oxygen deprived so I try to get to the door so if I lose consciousness family can find me on the floor. While doing that I realize that the mucus is right around the valve(?) for my lungs and my lungs apparently do not want the mucus! But my lungs really do want oxygen! So I, in an intense amount of shock and anxiety have to try to breathe in a way that is slow, insufficient and leaves me wondering if these are my last moments alive.
The best take I have is that dairy produces more mucus or phlegm. Okay, well, I try to only eat two meals a day and that cuts it down. Then I have bacon, eggs and OJ for lunch. Until I've got clients dinner will likely have milk. I just had a small snack with just a tiny amount of green tea and that added the mucus back! If I'm lucky I can clear my throat with three cough drops though sometimes it can be four or five.
I absolutely need to focus on getting clients to make money to be able to explore changing my diet but it feels like I won't be alive past this weak. Dr. Eric Berg mentions salt though family has refused to buy salt. I have taken long tweezers and put a thin face-cloth the gently rub the top-tonsils (the fleshy upper part of the top of my mouth that you can "pull down") and there is a definite gag-reflex. It kind of helps a little. Though I've been getting aggressive and have felt the openings were the mucus is secreted from.
I don't have any known allergies and I've done a lot of research. I really don't know what else I can do and feel like I won't make it past a few days from now. I literally have a zero budget though do have free access to the kitchen. I would be very grateful for constructive suggestions, thank you in advance!

Random 1234, it sounds like you might have acid reflux. You can try being careful not to bend forward or lie down after eating. Some people try otc antiacid tablets, but they can have side effects long term. And you might avoid alcohol, caffeine, and carbonated drinks. It's best to see a physician, easy to say but sometime an expense that we can't afford.
While tonsils don't produce a lot of mucus, mucus from your throat and sinuses can get trapped in crevices of the tonsil.
You may also have sleep apnea.

Hi Gently,
I have only had very minor acid reflux, usually once every few weeks at most and usually only if I overeat which I make a mild-to-modest attempt to avoid. The stomach needs to be acidic so I don't think the is the main issue and even if it was moderately more pronounced it wouldn't have much impact as the very occasional instances of acid reflux don't get all the way up to my tonsils.
I have one or two green teas a day; slowly sipped throughout the day. I don't drink any alcohol and I probably have a soda once every 3-6 months at this point. According to the articles I'm fairly certain I don't have GERD or if I do it's exceptionally mild. I likely have some mild-to-modest level of sleep apnea as I don't typically wake up feeling well rested. But awakening suddenly to choking to death is clearly linked in my mind to not clearing enough mucus before falling asleep.
I'm stuck focusing on sales as no one will help me beyond a minimal effort. It's the opposite for me in contrast to most people: willing though not able due to being devastatingly broke. I'm hoping to rectify that very soon.
...sorry, maybe i am not being helpful: but - I have xtreme dry mouth and food sort of sticks to inside my cheeks etc. I read that for various symptoms 2 cups warm waster (I boil mine first) half tsp. salt and half tsp. baking soda. Even thru night I wake up tongue was stuck to inside cheeks... so I put on night table take a small mouthfull and do a short gargle and, of course, need something to spit into... its surprising whast comes out.. tiny bits of food. Again, sorry if this doesnt seem to be an option, but wondered if you might want to try it... of coure cannot do it during day in public but perhaps when home/at night etc.. is it worth trying? Good luck, J.

1 Reaction@lacy2 You have a very different problem and it's clear that your diet needs to change. You are what you eat. Baking soda, yes, that's good for you though it sounds like you need more water overall if your mouth is dry, that sounds like your body is trying to conserve water. I'd recommend an Alexapure like I have, not the cheap not-actually-water-"filters" for $40 that do nothing. The body is ~60% water. Another good indication if you're dehydrated is if your urine is dark. You need to drink enough water to get it much lighter. Drink mostly at the start of the day. You might have to over-compensate for a while. I'd also suggest looking at the rest of your diet. If you're getting "enough water" but something in your diet requires an excessive amount of water to process then you really want to reduce the consumption of whatever it is. Start with obvious things you consume that most people (not close to you like family!) don't and stop for a week to see how your body adjusts. No change? Try cutting something else. If you're taking supplements make sure they're naturally derived instead of synthetic as most supplements are low quality knock-offs. I'd recommend looking u "Earths Blend" for example.
