.Can Eliquis make neck arthritis pain sexere?

Posted by rodanne @rodanne, Oct 30 10:12pm

I have been taking Eliquis 2.5 mg, 2 x day, and have developed severe neck pain, diagnosed with neck arthritis. It was sudden one day in February 2025, but gets worse every day. Doctors say Eliquis will not aggravate or cause this. I have no other arthritis. I’ve tried chiropractor care, physical therapy, gabapentin, cymbalta, lidocaine patches, and Voltaren cream and I am now on 3900 mg Tylenol Arthritus daily for pain - sometimes it helps, but most days my pain is at 10. Two weeks ago I had injections for steroid & lidocaine. It helped for two days & pain returned. Any advice?

That is awful! So sorry for your pain. It doesn't seem likely that the cause is Eliquis since it's a blood thinner. Have they done an MRI to see if it's truly arthritis? The only thing I can suggest is what they did for a friend with bad neck pain... Botox injections every six weeks. Blocked the nerves. Good luck!

@rodanne was your neck pain diagnosed by a rheumatologist? If not, I would suggest seeing one for further treatment. Daily Tylenol Arthritis in such high doses will have an effect on your liver.

Elquis, same dose for six weeks, during which time I had random, joint/muscle pain and for me, I think Eliquis was the cause. but then it was the cause that my remaining blot clots disappeared. My guess is that some people are affected and others not. I am not elderly, I'm ancient and it is thought that perhaps because I'm hyper flexible it affected me more. Now off the medication for a month I am still having some problems with muscle pain, but little by little it's getting better. Still have a bit of nausea. I think it helps to know possible side effects and this is a great site to exchange information. Best and best of luck. Before this, I had an extremely high pain threshold and couldn't figure out the meaning of the 1-10 scale. But now I do. 10

@koleke Hi; re Eliquis. I'm very curious about the Eliquis link and have a previous post below. I've seen a well medicine doctor for years whose specialty is arthritis, though not what I've seen her for. If it is arthritis, then it is new. I find this mode great for people to share experiences and able to share answers.

Anybody now off Eliquis that was on it for six months? I think the usual advice is not to go off it suddenly but a factor in my clotting was a from another drug so it was felt I did not need to stay on it once the clots in my leg and arm were gone, the major clotting in my lungs was, for the most part, removed by extraction.

@gabriig did your Doctor say to quit taking Eliquis? If not seek medical advice before stopping. Clotting is very dangerous

@the Because I was on a type of medication that can contribute to clotting, he felt it was appropriate to just stop.. I see him in a couple of weeks and will have further questions. He was skeptical that there were side effects and said they'd go away in three days. I'd love to hear from anybody who was taken off the medication and if they are experiencing the random side effects I continue to have in both shoulders, my hip joints, knee joints and across my groin. The pain is not mild. I was amazed to be taken off it because I had read the warnings and assumed that the dosage might be lowered. Ive been off it for a month now.

@koleke Sorry for the wrong word in title it should be SEVERE- but I don’t know how to change title. Thanks-for your reply. I had an MRI but drs don’t think Eliquis would cause my pain. But im in pain all the time & don’t know where to go anymore! Dr mentioned Botox, but he didn’t follow up with any info for my case.
