Welcome to Connect, @ddime. From information I’m reading, though gonorrhea isn’t usually transmitted through casual contact such as kissing, sharing food, etc., it may be possible to get gonorrhea through oral sex or kissing if the person has oral gonorrhea. The good news is bacteria doesn’t last long outside the body. But anyone contracting this STD needs antibiotics to treat the infection. It will not go away on its own.

Babies can be born with this STD if their mother has gonorrhea at the time. This can be a serious health risk for the child. I can’t find any information on babies contracting this after birth but it would be dangerous for a child to have this disease left untreated.

Because babies are vulnerable and their immune systems are still immature, my gut response is have your baby checked for a possible infection. Not all symptoms are obvious so it would be better to be safe than sorry.

How long ago was your baby’s exposure? Does your child’s health changed?

my baby have ear infection that about what i know and the doc checked his throat cause he was sick and coughing but the doc didnt see anything but i didnt inform her of this part of the info since i feel like my baby shouldnt or couldn't have contracted the gonorrhea from the situation but you know my boyfriend was worried and felt we should add that and let the practitioner know too. my boyfriend said he himself may have contracted it from kissing someone while we were broken up because he didnt catch the genital gonorrhea only the oral one...

It’s probably remote that your baby would have contracted this under the circumstances you described. However, since your little guy is sick, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have the baby’s doctor run test to check for gonorrhea. It would put your mind at ease…and maybe have yourself tested as well? Just to be sure?
