Calf Muscle cramp
How can I treat the pain that continues three days after experiencing a calf muscle cramp at home? I'm wondering why I'm still feeling discomfort after three days following the muscle cramp that occurred at night. This incident took place on the first day of my GM diet, during which I consumed watermelon, cantaloupe, and red dragon fruit, while consuming around 3 liters of fluids, mainly consisting of mineral water and green tea. Despite having already massaged the affected calf area, applied warm compression, taken a daily dose of 550mg naproxen sodium, and maintained proper fluid intake, the pain persists.

Hello @farahgeo1. I just wanted to check in with you to see if you ever found an answer to the pain in your calf? Was it a blood clot?
Thank you for your concern. The pain in my calf actually subsided after about a week. I found relief by applying warm compression every night and taking a daily dose of 550 mg of naproxen sodium. I decided not to seek medical attention since the pain gradually improved.
That’s good news to hear. I wish you well in the future and no repeats of that little episode. ☺️
Have you been able to use a more ‘friendly’ approach to weight loss than the GM diet? That one seemed so aggressive. Slow and steady wins the diet race. I mentioned quite a few options that really help to lose weight without crash dieting. That never worked for me either. It was nice seeing pounds come off but not at the price I was paying for basically starving myself. Maybe it worked as an incentive but the plans were beneficial and when I’d stop the weight came back up. Sometimes we just need to love the skin we’re in. ☺️
My own cramping issue is because Imetabolize medication fast. So I am taking prescription potassium capsules because the coated ones didn't dissolved in my GI tract and I was excreting them in my stools. Now I take them in the morning and at night, they were 1st prescribed for once a day but in April 2023, I started having severe cramping of my hands and feet to the point where my fingers curled up into my palms and my toes did worse. It even effected my arms and calf to the point where I was screaming in the middle of the night and scaring my husband. We tried hot compresses, but that only helped while the heat remained in the compress we microwaved. Talk to your doctor and how you may be processing your potassium levels. Hopefully your doctor is smart enough to help and doesn't ignore your concerns. Plus you can't take potassium with other supplements, you have to take them at different times. I looked it up on the Mayo clinic information that you can Google.
Thanks. I didn’t know about potassium being taken at other times from the rest of supplements. I get cramps in both legs in the middle of the night. I rub Thera Worx on my legs and walk off the cramps. But I’d like to stop them all together!
I think magnesium is also helpful for leg cramping. There are powders like MellowMag you can mix into water and drink. Almonds are also a good source of magnesium, and there are always electrolyte drinks. I used to get the cramps frequently. I'd get out of bed and flatten my foot on the floor. Now, hardly ever. I've also increased salt intake due to low blood pressure.
I agree with the electrolyte light drinks that’s what is causing them is getting low on electrolytes
I found adding magnesium seem to lessen mine plus I try to drink lots of water and I try to keep bananas on hand What was odd for me to get rid of my cramps was mostly my feet. Heat helped me when they came on I use to soak them in hot water then I was fine again or a heating pad just so strange why that stopped the extreme cramping
For many years, I've taken magnesium that successively prevents my painful leg cramping at night. At one point after not having experienced cramping for a long time, I thought maybe my problem was over and I might not need to keep taking magnesium. I won't make that mistake again as the cramps returned without it! (The magnesium I use is "High Absorption Magnesium Lysinate Glycinate 100% Chelated.") Remember that foods and supplements taken for specific health problems aren't like aspirin that works almost immediately. A little patience is often required at first.
Best wishes to all who are dealing with this problem.
