C Diff issues after completing antibioitcs
I was diagnosed with c diff 9 weeks ago. I went through 2 different antibioitics. It seemed better but now almost 4 weeks later I am still having bowel movements 8 t0 15 times a day. Nothing seems to help slow or stop it. The only time I get a break is when I go to bed at night. I may get up once all night but then it starts up as soon as I get up in the morning. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what this maybe causing this? The infectious disease doctor gave me Cholestyramine to take once a day but it has not helped.

I would ask to be tested again to make sure the C. Diff is no longer an issue. (I also experienced the phenomena of frequent bathroom visits during the day, but a blessed reprieve at night while I slept. )Between the antibiotics and c diff toxins, my microbiome and gut lining was shot. I continued to have diarrhea, couldn’t eat and was dropping weight until a doctor told me to take a specific probiotic called ProBioMed 250 by Designs for Health (designsforhealth.com). It’s pricey, but worth it - within a couple days I noticed a remarkable difference. I was told to take it for 4-6 weeks and to stop if I got constipated. Within a month I saw a gastro doc who specializes in C Diff who said the ProBioMed was good, but wanted me to replace with Visbiome 112.5 and Florastor. He said I would be much improved within a couple weeks. He was correct. Another great improvement. However…the damage to the lining of my gut resulted in post-infectious IBS. Eating food on the FODMAP diet allowed me to eat safe foods and allowed my gut lining to start to heal. After a couple of months I was able to slowly re-introduce non-FODMAP foods. After a while I consulted with the C Diff Queen, gastro doc Dr. Sabine Hazan - progenaBiome.com - (read her book “Let’s Talk Sh!t”) and have been on her protocol for a few months. The infection and antibiotics destroyed my microbiome which resulted in terrible dysbiosis (sp?) which we are working on to correct. When you are able, food you need to include are yogurts, sauerkraut (refrigerated, not heated organic raw fermented), all the fermented foods.
All the best, please let us know how you are doing.
Years ago, I got C Diff after completing an intense course of antibiotics for food poisoning. The only antibiotic that worked for me was Vancomycin but it's a tightly controlled antibiotic since, at the time, it was considered the "antibiotic of last resort"
Thank you for your help! I will check with my Dr.
Wow! Thank you so much. I like you only get a reprieve while sleeping. I will try the probiotic you suggested ans see if there is an improvement and I will talk to my doctor about a retest for c diff.
Thank you for all the good information and I will check out the Let's talk Sh!t book.
I will keep in touch.
Also, for more C Diff information, check out the Peggy Lillis Foundation at cdiff.org. You will find a lot of very helpful information there.
One more thing I wanted to mention. It has been 14 months since my c diff diagnosis. Doctors kept telling me “it will take some time” to get better. I had no idea what that meant, and kept getting frustrated when I wasn’t better in a few days or weeks. Turns out, in my case, “some time” meant MONTHS before I felt like myself again. So be patient with yourself. You’re going to have to rebuild your microbiome back up.
I will check out the information on C diff website. I have been so depressed and everything felt hopeless. Thank you again so much for the information and encouraging words. I do not feel so alone. Any insight is encouraging. Thank you!
You are definitely not alone. I think you will find helpful info at Peggy Lillis Foundation. They have people who you can talk to…
