Bursitis and hip pain

What is the difference between bursitis and hip pain? I saw a doctor and she said I have bursitis but now I also have hip pain.

raebaby, you might consider imaging the hip. I'd see a chiropractor first because it's faster and may be an easier remedy. If the cause of your pain is something complex or something simple, an injection may not resolve the pain. If you are certain that a facet? epidural? hip joint injection? will ease the pain, then good thinking. Except who wants to be in pain for the next three and a half months.

There are several areas of bursa in the hip. Usually it is the trochanter bursa they refer to. The fluid in the bursa can become thin over or can become inflamed. I like this link for the drawings https://chironptva.com/guide-to-hip-burs20healingitis/ Other types of hip pain can come from the sacroi liac joint which can dispace the ball of the hip from the socket; you can have a tear in lining of the hip joint; or fracture in the ball of the hip. You might be able to figure out the cause of your bursitis. Maybe it was an unusual activity lifting or a new exercise routine. Or you might be able to have antiinflammatory injection or https://nyulangone.org/conditions/bursitis-tendinitis/treatments/therapeutic-injections-for-bursitis-tendinitis#:~:text=As%20part%20of%20a%20nonsurgical,and%20swelling%20and%20encourage%20healing.

Thank you so much. I'll look at all of this information. As far as I can guess I got this from sitting for 4 hours on an air plane and then binge watching a series on Netflix. Too much sitting.

raebaby, oh, ischial bursitis. Nevermind the previous links. You have probably tried stretching the piriformus and gluteous muscles. There are those little air pillows that distribute your weight away from the the ischial tuberosity. I hope it goes away before you get the injection.

I have had several cortisone shots in my hips and my back; they do not work for me at all. Like one of you said; sometimes doctors just don't 'hit the spot'. I'm not sure how they guesstimate where to hit, or if they even care. {some of them} My pain keeps me from even my normal, routine housework, except in short spurts.

I had my right hip replaced 5 years ago. I now have bursitis in that hip. MRI taken PT didn't help. I do get shots in that hip. I can actually press on the spot that hurts. Sometimes the cortisone works and sometimes it doesn't do a thing

I came home a month ago from a 3 1/2 hour plane ride and my hip area started hurting. Now it is very painful. If i am given an injection now I'm afraid that if I want to go on another aiplane ride in mid February it will have worn off. I am wondering if I should wait until closer to my trip for it.
I'm 82 and i have some foot neuropathy from chemo that ended 2 years ago. I've never had pain like this before. It's affecting my posture and being able to sit without a lot of drugs, over the counter and some serious ones.

I suffer from hip bursitis frequently and get cortisone injections when the pain gets unbearable. I have lupus but I don’t know if that matters. My doctor will only use cortisone if my last injection was over 3 months previously.

Thank you all of you. My bursitis seems to be improving. I'm taking over the counter pain killers and some CBD. I'll put off getting an injection until closeer to the trip i want to take in February.

That is what I did when we went to the South Pacific and my hip was hurting . The injection helped me have a great time as I could move with not too much trouble. I eventually had to have my hip replaced.
