What is the difference between bursitis and hip pain? I saw a doctor and she said I have bursitis but now I also have hip pain.

How to deal with severe Bursitis pain? Will the new shots help?

Please insist on an MRI of hip. It could be that you now have a gluteus medius tear. Don't wait, because lack of care can lead to fatty infiltration and atrophy and complications that will require surgical options.

https://www.americanhipinstitute.com/patient-education-videos.html There are many Internet sites that will inform source of your pain. Take a minute to type into address line search terms that identify your pain. You will learn orthopedic surgeons are slow to correctly diagnose a gluteus tear and persist/continue to treat hip pain as bursitis. At a future time, when my gluteus maximus transfer is complete, I plan to contact The Washington Post Health Editor to ask that an article on the miss diagnosis of bursitis and the surgical options for repair of gluteus tears be published. I've researched across the US for orthopedic surgeons who are knowledgeable and skilled/trained in the surgical options for gluteus tears and there are few, very few. And when you find an MD, the number of gl repairs/transfer surgeries is very low. Why so far afield, because there is not an orthopedic surgeon in my community MD/VA/DC who provides surgical options for a full thickness gluteus medius tear. The orthopedic surgeon I am working w/ at Ruth Orthopedics has completed just five gluteus maximus transfers. So it a chance taking, but I'm going for it. Why, because the Trendelenburg Gate and the hip pain are just too much of a disruption to daily living.

Loretta, which new shots are you referring to? Can you please tell us a little about your history with bursitis or any other problems with this hip?

It is info for my daughter - Bonnie. She has severe pain in the back from Bursitis!! Getting shots in the back for the problem. So far the shots have not helped with the pain.

Will the new shots help and how long does it take to be effective?

Thanks for the info

sorry the name is - Bonnie not Loretta. I don't know the name of the shots it was just mentioned at the office that new shots are available for Bursitis. Last week her blood pressure was too high so she could not get the shot.

Hello Bonnie- we are all patients here, not medical professionals. I'm afraid we would only br guessing about the treatment you refer to. If your daughter has online access to her medical records, she should be able to see what they're planning.
Blood pressure too high for injections is scary, do they have a plan to help lower it?

Ask your doctor if the hip pain is radiating out from the bursa or whether the whole IT band is inflamed. Bursitis in the hip is often caused by the IT band rubbing on the "trochanter". Sometimes doctors give physical therapy or cortisone shots for hip bursitis. I have had both, but sinar shockwave treatments worked best and fastest. Check with a physiatrist in your area who has 20 or more years of experience. You could also look up "regenerative medicine" in your area but be sure you are dealing with a real doctor. There are a growing number of commercial companies out there and you need someone really qualified who can offer a range of options for treatment, not just a salesperson. Good luck.

I started in January 2017 with a "jumping" like pain in my left groin area. I had also begun bleeding even though I was in menopause. To make a long story a bit shorter, I was referred to an OB/GYN. I had day surgery which resulted in a complete total Hysterectomy. I had 3 tumors various sizes. Two months later found out they were benign.
2018 SCAD HEART ATTACK. No blockages and no stents. Cardiac Rehab and meds.
The groin pain discomfort continued. Told to walk by my GP! My leg would give out. Major pain in my back.
2022 finally told by an ER PHYSICIAN I NEEDED A TOTAL LEFT HIP REPLACEMENT!
My total hip replacement completed under spinal anesthetic and discharged within 24 HOURS!
Major pain on discharge and weeks after. Staples were inserted in a crooked manner. No rest and very painful to remove!
YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE... only YOU know what feels right or wrong
So, this started in 2017 suddenly and it took 6 1/2 years for surgery.
