Breathing difficulties upon any exertion I.e cooking, making bed, walk

Posted by cgm37644 @cgm37644, Apr 12 11:49am

I breathe hard (puffing) whenever I exert myself. At times I have to sit down and relax to stop it. I have allergies but I can breathe through my nose with my mouth shut. I find this happening when doing normal activities: cooking, walking to bedroom, taking a shower. I have an aneurysm with a heart murmur and acquired vertical diaphragm. My GP doesn’t seem concerned but it’s driving me nuts.

I'm so sorry you are having such awful breathing problems! And your doctor seems to think your situation is normal! Has he given you any tests? My husband had lung cancer and was often very breathless. What helped him was home oxygen. Also he had a nebulizer machine that you put medicine in and then breathe in the fumes for about 5 minutes. He had hand held inhalers too. All of these helped his breathing. They all require a doctor's prescription. Ask your doctor about them. If he doesn't want to give them to you then perhaps you need to find a new doctor. It's your body and your money. The doctors are supposed to be here to help you.

Research all the side effects of your medications and over the counter medications. Often the side effects can cause breathlessness.

Prayer also helps. Just talk to God like he's your best friend and he is! God made you and he can fix you! I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.

Welcome to Mayo Connect. It sounds like you need to have a heart-to-heart talk with your GP and insist on a consultation with a pulmonary or allergy specialist. To have those kinds of breathing issues is exhausting, and there are inhalers and other products that can be prescribed to help you.

What type of allergy or breathing tests have you had? Have you been prescribed any medications for these issues?

On the topic of checking meds: your pharmacist can help you discover if any of the drugs you take may be responsible including possible drug interactions.

Do a diary of the shortness of breath when it starts and stops
How long has the shortness of breath been going on?.
Do a diary and write down what is going on what you are doing when they spell start and how long they last.
The doctors are on me to lose weight and have you gained any weight?.
Lately I’ve been having similar issues, but I know I am out of condition and I do need to walk. I am so happy that Warmer weather is coming to Minnesota.
If this has been going on for about a month, talk to your doctor or his nurse and see what they think
I wish you the very best
