Is this Breast Cancer?

Posted by alykat11 @alykat11, Jun 20, 2021

Hey so I recently found a lump in one of my breasts. It started with my nipple getting sore and it looks like my nipple got a little burned. Since it hurt I decided to palpate it and I feel like a small tiny bump. I wanted to know what everyone else has experienced and if I should be freaking out.

My situation is more like yours. I am not sure how the doctors are going to deal with it. I had my mammogram a year back, wasn't scheduled for another year. Felt a lump in the outer side of the left breast closer to my clavicle. By the time I made an appointment with my Oby gyn and saw her the lump was gone. They did ultrasono and mammo, found small lump in left side and saw a shade in the right side in the mammo nothing in ultrasono. When the biopsy in left side came out +ve for ER and PR The bipsied the right breast in the mammo equipment. That came out +ve for HER2 also.
Did you have both ER/PR +ve and HER2 +ve? Did your skin itch around the neck and breast?

I was dx with IDC stage 1 on Sept. 25. For 6 months previous I had a "crawling" sensation in that breast but ignored it. This itching feeling still comes and goes and has expanded to the axilla and upper trunk. I mentioned it at my biopsy and ultrasound, but nobody expressed concern. I will meet with my surgeon next Thursday and will let you know if she has anything to say about it.

Also, when I was first told there might be a problem, I googled "crawling sensation in breast" and one of the search responses was "Breast Cancer symptoms...."

Hope you are doing ok.

Hi @angel01, how are you doing? Have you met with the cancer team yet to discuss next steps?

My MRI of my right breast was delayed by one week. Just got the reports from Kaiser since I was detected with BC. My insurance changes this January. Trying to align providers with the new insurance. I already decided on the doctors in Kaiser(Oncologist, Oncologist-Surgeon, Oncology-Radiologist and Mammo-plastic surgeon.) Now I am waiting for Treatment plan. If surgery goes first then I don't know what will happen once insurance changes. How long I need to see the surgeon for post-op visits. I am overwhelmed about how to transfer the information to the new set of doctors with the new insurance.

I have that sensation also and a little pain with it. People keep telling me that is not due to breast cancer.

Hi Angel01,

I brought it up to my surgeon and she didn't really say anything about it 🙂
It's ok - I am thinking it is probably due to actual growth of the tumor exerting pressure on the nearby nerves and causing a sensation.
Hope you are hanging in there.

If you are having reconstruction you will see the plastic surgeon weekly at first regarding the filling of expander over time as well as to check and then remove drains ( usually by week two or three). You likely won’t see your breast surgeon until a six week check ( if memory serves).

Expect multiple visits with plastic closely following surgery.

Hope this helps 🌸 and best to you.

PS: all insurance companies must, by law ( thank you ACA) cover breast cancer related surgeries and reconstructions but of course you want your team on board with your particular insurance company.

Hello. I had exactly this circumstance a year ago with a double mastectomy on December 8. I was worries too! And I thought the burden of the change was on me. I hope your experience is as positive as mine regarding this transfer. Basically, the old company transferred everything to the new company and to the doctors. I went to an appointment fretting to the intake person and she basically said “yes, we already know”. My new card didn’t come to well into January 2023 but I carried the letter I got regarding the change. It was not any kind of problem. Trust those doctors to have staff that are very diligent about payment! I’m sorry you are worried. Worry is a big part of cancer. But we are know it’s not helpful or productive. I’ll also add in an attempt to reassure you, that the surgery itself is not particularly painful. I had very little discomfort and virtually none that the Tylenol with codeine they gave me couldn’t manage. I wish you the absolute best on your journey!
