Had the itching and sometimes a weird sensation of the skin crawling sometimes. Suffered with this on and off usually 5 times a year for days.
Then accidentally discovered traction took the itch away. Was on an inversion table to give my back traction to relieve sciatica pain. When I got off the table my itch had gone away at the same time. Used the table for a few more times before developing an easier way to do neck traction.
For some of us this works. Others turn to freezing ointments and sprays or other numbing treatments.
For me traction controls the itch completely
These are two techniques I use to create traction. Cervical spinal compression can lead to discs being pinched and bulging out between the vertebrae (bone). The disc can make contact with the brachial nerve. That touch sends an abnormal message to the brain that it interprets itch or for some pain. Traction pulls the vertebrae apart allowing the disc to pull back. That ends the itch or pain.
The photos show normal posture left and on the right I take my shoulders roll them back and hold them down while I lift my head off my shoulders and hold for 30 seconds. You get better at doing it.
The other picture is fingers interlaced beside the head. Pinching the head with palms I lift my head to create the traction. You can even do both to help get more traction.
