Booster - have you had one and what were side effects

Posted by Laurie @roch, Sep 17 5:47am

Lot of news about boosters, if and when should get. I do not want to get into politics, just wondering for those who have had, what are your side effects?

I received my Moderna booster at Mayo Rochester on Wed. 9/15 (6 months after my 2nd COVID vaccine). Mayo reached out to me via portal and advised me to make an appointment for booster. I assume this is based on medical information in my Mayo medical record, I have many medical conditions, but cancer in remission is most serious.

There are pros and cons of getting, but I decided the pros out weighed the cons in my situation.

I am on day 2, and experiencing sore arm, headache and tired. I had a headache and sore arm after 2nd shot, this time slightly worse. Hopefully will go away in few days. Glad I have nothing important to do today, taking Tylenol and hope headache goes away before weekend.

I am first person I know to get booster. My sister has also been notified to get her booster, and is waiting to see how I react to mine. Also, many of my friends are interested in how I react to booster.

I am interested in side effects people are having and how long they lasted, were they about same as 2nd shot or worse.

Thanks
Laurie

Had Pfizer #3 Sept. 6 (Labor Day) which was 6 months and 5 days after my second Pfizer. DIdn't sense anything wrong. No arm pain, no headache.

Had booster in August, 8 months after second shot. Headache and lethargic were the only slight side effects.

I had my third Pfizer in August with no real side effects, just mild fatigue the next day, a very slight headache, and a sore arm.

Listen to video, very interesting. I do not consider myself moderately immunized compromised, yet Mayo told me to schedule vaccine. So many mixed messages it is confusing.

Interesting and informative, thank you. Recommendations, and also results from on-going research changes not only weekly, but sometimes daily, so appreciate Mayo keeping us updated.

My 56 year old brother had the booster and a week later went to read the newspaper and couldn’t understand what he was reading. He called his doctor and they had him go in and checked for stroke, etc. couldn’t find anything. Not sure if it was related to booster but obviously something temporarily went on with his brain.

Do we need to wait between a flu shot and the COVID booster, and how long?

Both my primary and my pharmacist recommend two weeks between doses.
Ever curious, I asked "Why?"
The explanation was that if you have a delayed reaction, they can more clearly pinpoint the cause. Also, if you are a highly reactive individual, two at once can cause you to feel even more crummy.
Oh yes, I remember, I had to go back to the clinic over and over with one of my kids, because if she got more than one childhood immunization at a time, she had on "off the charts" immune reaction and was miserable for days.
Hope this helps.

PS I got a third dose yesterday, and so far just a really sore arm. Last dose it was headache, bodyaches, fever…

I'm not due for my booster until the end of November. Has anyone who has gotten the booster had an improvement with their Post Covid Syndrome?

I received my flu shot yesterday at Publix and was told to wait 4 weeks to get the Phizer booster. Is that a Mayo protocol also?
