Bone Loss Drug Reclast

Posted by seniorlady @seniorlady, Jul 24, 2016

Has anyone had the injection and what have been the results…side effects or not? I am to start on this later this week and am considering not doing it because of possible side effects….the idea that the bone cells causing the bone loss (due to aging) will be changed by the drug scares me.

Hi @meemer. Welcome to Connect. Have you noticed any improvement with the 2 Reclast treatments you’ve had so far?

Sandi, my mom has been taking Prolia for 2 years now, an injection every 6 months. She has had no side effects and quite positive results for which I am grateful. Her mobility has also improved.

You may wish to hear from other Connect members discussing Prolia in these 2 discussion threads:

I have had 2 reclast infusions and have had no side effects. That is, I have not felt badly after the infusion. Who knows what it does to you body. I have read all the literature on it and have decided that not having it might be worse than having it. My doctor agrees. I have another DEXA in November so we shall see if it has done any good or not then I will decide if I will have another. I have been on all the other osteoporsis drugs, including Forteo, and I’m still fighting it.

This is the first posting I’ve seen with “Forteo” in it. I was diagnosed in March and immediately started injecting myself with Forteo. I haven’t had any side effects but I worry about what is happening to my body or what could happen in the future. Why did you get off Forteo?

I injected myself with the Forteo for 2 years, the time that it wa allowed. It has not been tested for longer than that. That was the case when I stopped in 2011, that is.

Did you have any side effects? Did you have a Dexacan after Forteo and if
so how much did it change? Thank you so much for answering my questions.

I had no side effects at all from taking the Forteo. As to any improvement – only slightly. Can’t give you the exact numbers. The reports I have I can’t understand. Only the radiologists comments of slight improvement. Sorry I can’t be more specific.
