sue417, using Reclast first blunts the effect of Forteo. It is more effective to have Forteo before Reclast.
I agree with you about starting on the bone builder. He's kind of sensitive when you try to communicate with him?
Hi
Sorry but I am high risk. This is the info from a medical document I found which is new information.
"Combination therapy with daily teriparatide (Forteo, Eli Lilly) and a once-yearly 5-mg zoledronic acid injection (Reclast, Novartis) provided the most rapid increases in BMD at both spine and hip and may be considered for patients at a high risk of fracture, according to new study results"
My Physician, I trust immensely. He is one of the smartest doctors I know. He discussed every bone building drug with me in detail. In canada there are only two available. Evenity and forteo.
Tymlos unfortunately is not approved in canada yet.
sue417, the gains with synchronous denosumab and teriparatide are even more dramatic than zoledronate and teriparatide It is almost impossible to obtain insurance approval for the combined treatment. Sequential therapy provides the most and best gain if the anabolic is first.
Your very smart physician may want you on Reclast to guard against bone metastasis from breast cancer.
Hi
I have been on zoldronic acid fo 3 years. My bone density in my spine had improved greatly. I only went through cancer last year. So this will be my last infusion 42 years Because I will be going on forteo.
sue417, you could probably get approval for both medications, if zoledronate were prescribed for metastatic protection. Here the Reclast drug is given under the retail name Zometa often at lower dosage than Reclast and more frequently for cancer metastasis. On the lower dose would be less likely to experience some of the side effects.
Sue, Forteo is my favorite osteoporosis medication.
If your doctor will order bone markers, you might ask for P1NP and CTX, oo that you can know that the medication is effective for you. It's good to have a set before and a set one or two months after starting.
Hi
I don't need approval for a zoledronic acid
My cancer was stage 0 dcis.
That medication is covered in canada by the government
Hi
That's good to know about forteo. Do you have to move the injection site a lot.
@gently I got a baseline for P1NP in February because I was going to start Tymlos. But I’ve paused on starting Tymlos for a year. Do you think my p1np results from this year are a sufficient baseline or should I he another one next yea jus before starting Tymlos?
And thank you for all you share in this forum. Really appreciate your knowledge and research.
I had been seeing a neurologist and an electro- cardiologist for several years before my endocrinologist suggested Evenity. [Foxamax was no longer working.] Both completely supported the 1 year of Evenity in my case, WEIGHING THE RISKS. Both are monitoring the reactions. The markers show my bones are improving. The experience of others, including mine, is not relevant here. Follow the advice of your care team.
After all, certain broken bones can result in death.
