Bladder cancer AFTER BCG

Posted by kevinpm @kevinpm, Feb 25 2:19pm

Live in Illinois. Urine was bloody in August. Went to local urologist who did, among other things, a scraping. Could see two large tumors. Biopsy said non-invasive. Disheartened with local urologist and his communications, contacted Mayo. Mayo did another scraping. After 7 weeks of BCG, I failed the treatment. Latest cystoscopy showed numerous tiny cancer cells and now two new ones on my prostate. Scheduled for another scraping in mid March. I feel this is going bad. Anyone else gone down this path and where are you now?

Hi, BCG didn’t work for me, but Gem/Doc did.
Last blue light Cystoscopy checks showed no cancer, these were taken a year apart.
Good luck.

I am always pleased to hear good news.

Very encouraging that Gem/Doc worked for you and it gives hope to those for whom BCG was not effective.

Be well and best wishes.

Likewise for me, BCG did not work so Gem/Doc for a yr. Cancer did not come back as of yet. BCG does not work for everyone. Gem/Doc not great but tolerable.

Good news! Yet another success story with Gem/Doc.

The full results are not yet in whether BCG was effective for me.

Well, it's always encouraging to hear of different treatments which are available.

Stay well.

After only 6 doses of BCG the doctor recommends removing bladder? Isn't there another treatment they can try before removing bladder?

@tomef
I have tried Mitomycin 8 doses which worked briefly but failed. I am a transplant recipient, so I am restricted on what drugs can be used so I asked for something else, I do not want to lose my bladder so we are going to try Inlexzo.
Should start that in the next week.

Hi Kevin - Curious where in Illinois you are located? I am in McLean County and also opted for Mayo due to the lack of resources locally.
