Binosto Setback
I learned today Binosto has been discontinued in the United States (aside from what still remains in stock). Does anyone in the U.S. acquire Binosto (or other medication) internationally? I hear the rules have been tightened. What alternatives have you considered? My story is I haven't started it but had hoped to, I am back to square one. I believe regular alendronate tablets interfered with my Synthroid absorption even thought they had been appropriately separated. Anyone else feel in a bind by this discontinuation?

Binosto would have caused an even greater reduction in synthyroid absorption because it comes in a fizzy-high salt form. You just have to separate t he timing of intake for these two medications. It is tricky because both require an empty stomach.

1 ReactionI take my thyroid in the middle of the night when I get up to pee (side effect of Tymlos) around 3 or 4 am. I inject Tymlos at 3pm. Works out pretty well. My Dr actually reduced my thyroid dosage without any increase in symptoms (TSH bloodwork okay so far) because it can contribute to bone loss as well. I mainly started this night meds routine because I could not space all the other supplements far enough apart (2 hours each) from each others and sometimes food. I have the med and water set up on my bedside table each evening. I hope you are able to find something that works for you!

4 Reactions@gently - Thank you for the link. I had visited Canada, the Vancouver area for a conference years ago and had enjoyed it. May now keep my eyes open for another conference! I wish a boutique type outfit would try to manufacture a generic version in the U.S. It looks for the most part like the patents on this have run out except one left set to expire around 2031. Perhaps a company could broker a deal with the German manufacturers for over that interval. Unfortunately, profits will drive decisions here.

2 Reactions@boneoptimist - That is a good idea. I tried taking Synthroid before sleep and it kept me awake. Need to try it after awakening. Thanks for your help.

1 ReactionUpdate: So far, the Canada Drugs Direct has been great. I should be covered for three months of Binosto soon. Tariff ran about 10 dollars. Canada Drugs Direct said Oct 9th, and Oct 22, 2026, import/export rules are undergoing changes. Does anyone have any inside scoop and know in practice how this will play out (For individuals just trying to use medication for personal use like Binosto that is no longer available in the U.S.)? The price will undoubtably rise, but to what extent I wonder(?).

Thank you for taking the time to send those articles. I've been still struggling to get my prescription paperwork approved, I hope I meet the deadline. I had read much earlier that the administration was trying to equalize the drug prices U.S. citizens pay with what other countries do. I don't see how curtailing personal imports fosters that goal. Given the small fortune our California county pays for outside visitor's healthcare (Some portion of their one billion projected annual shortfall), ending one's ability to import a medication for personal use (That is no longer offered in the U.S.) seems squeezing us at both ends. Sorry to complain, that point taken to my congressman would definitely not score points!
