Best way to manage Reynauds syndrome in fingertips.

Posted by lindaadele @lindaadele, 3 days ago

I have had Reynauds Syndrome for many many years. I am 80 years old and my symptoms are getting worse. Warm water on my fingertips used to work very good for me but now my fingers still feel funny even after the warm water rinse. Thank you for any information you can give me.

lindadele, Hey there! I'm sorry you have this. It is painful and I understand. Warm water still works for me.
If it's close to bath time and I have a flare, I get in the tub and put my hands down flat in the water. It helps
greatly and toes too.

I have used heat packs in the microwave (not too hot!) and it warms my fingers and toes up nicely and the
pain goes away. I wonder if a heating pad on low would do the same?

Praying for you. Reynauds is no fun. Blessings.....

Try those cheap disposable hand warmers. They stay warm for hours...so you can use them throughout the day.

I bought a heating pad that I can stick my hands inside. I have used it on my feet. Toasty warm! The "sack" gets hotter on one side...I wish it would get hotter on both sides, I just flip it around. Love it tho...

Are you sure this is true Raynauds? I ask because I thought I had Raynauds, all symptoms the same. Then I got diagnosed and treated for rheumatoid arthritis with vasculitis, which was making my skin thin and purple and my nose bleed, and my finger tips turned pink again.

Oh, and to add, you can have vasculitis without the rheumatoid arthritis

Raynauds usually has your fingers turn from white to blue and then red as the blood flow return..for me the red stage is the most painful ....
I have just learned that it could be associated with Scleraderma (SSc)!

I too have lived with Raynauds for decades. I have the turning white phenomenon, but not the blue and red changes. Also, no pain just the annoying numbness until blood flow begins. Warm water does help .. winter is on its way, the episodes become more frequent. I turn 84 this month.

I have some of the same symptoms. My biggest problem is feeling things.
It takes me much longer to get thing out of my pockets because I can't feel the object especially if it cash or credit card. Winter is much worse though.
For the time being, they have diagnosed me with polyneuropathy.
You said you have had this since decades. How old were you when you got diagnosed? It sounds like you have a good coping mechanism.
Best regards
