Best Clock Radio For Hard Of Hearing?

Posted by joefromsd @joefromsd, Jan 24, 2021

I listen to AM radio at night while falling asleep. I'm hoping someone can recommend a good brand and model for clarity of sound for human speech.

joefromsd@joefromsd Thanks Joel for asking my question for me! I would add I would like a radio that was considered good enough quality to not fall apart in a few years.

Let's hope someone has a good answer for us Barb!

Curious to know: Are you wearing hearing aids or other personal equipment as you listen to the radio? Once my personal devices are off my ear, speech is very difficult to understand. If you can understand and enjoy speech without your hearing devices, one of the top brands like Bose might be worth looking into.

No I can't wear hearing aids due to contact dermatitis in my outer ear canals.

Can the Contact Dermatitis not be treated?

REPLY

Only by not putting anything in your ears, like hearing aids LOL!

joefromsd@joefromsd there must be a way to deal with that. How many MD's have said "there's no way to treat that"? Maybe you could be eligible for a C.I. which would avoid the contact dermatitis?

My ENT prescribed a strong (2%) hydrocortisone cream to apply to the insider of my ears daily, a little while before putting in my hearing aids (30 minutes or so). I have dermatitis and itchy ears, and also, clean the ear molds (or in smaller aids, it would be the area that is not in the case) carefully with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to keep from re-creating the problem. Make sure to let dry before insertion. I have now switched to the $1 tube of the cream (1%). This works for me and has for years.

When my hearing aids (HA) are recharging in their box at night I set my Smart phone Alarm for 3 different times.. 15 minutes apart.. for my wake-up.. that way I can put my phone close to my good ear... I have installed a "Volume Booster" app on my phone.. It usually wakes me up.. the Alarm on the smart phone can be set for different rings and different durations of the alarm... the phone can be several feet closer to my ear than the one on the night stand... Distance is all important in hearing.. Occasionally I will fall asleep without taking out my HA and the alarm really gives me a "start" those mornings..
