Laurie,
I wonder why when I put in your I.D. it does not come up on the list?
Agree the snacking is my downfall also. I tend to do it when watching T.V. Have tried to switch to a pop corn called SkinnyPop. 39 calories per cup. Got to get spouse help in not buying high calorie snacks for her and then telling me not to eat them.
Exercsies:
I do water aerobics 5 days a week. On two of those days I do back to back classes.
I also swim a mile twice a week. I live in a Del Webb where we have a heated indoor lap pool
I try to bike 20 miles twice a week but right now even though I live in Florida temps in 40s with wind.
I also walk 1-3 miles couple of times a week.
I do exercies with stretch bands my PT recommended for back problems and posture. I do them twice a week.
@jc76
Thanks for sharing your story. The snacking at night is my biggest problem also. I think it is boredom. I am very impressed at your exercise routine. I just started a balance class to build up muscles. Small weight loss is better then gaining weight, that is how I approach it.
What type of exercise do you do?
@fab5
I am a jr. and my family chose to nickname me Jody (hince the initial on my I.D.).
I had no weight problem until I started having medical and some pyschological issues. Now don't be afraid of that statement I am talking about axiety and stress and PTSD.
Weight then started as I think I started eating more of comfort foods other that eating food when hungry. I did try nutrisystem and did lose weight each time (50-60 lbs twice). It does work but as you can see if don't change life style will come back.
I am a avid exercersier execrising 6 days a week. So not that I am not physcially active. What I have learned now into my late 70s is you metabolism slows down. You lose muscle (which requires more calories than fat), and you tent to eat differently.
I tried WEGOVY (all dosage levels) nd actually gaine weight on it. WEGOVY will probably not have me as a model. My PCP says I am one of those that will not respond to their formula but wants to now try EPOUND. Having problems with insurance on that one.
I know I can lose weight but not at the rate I want. I need to stop snacking in between meals especially at night which is worse time to do so. That fasting from dinner to breakfast is very important to losing weight I am told by my PCP
So I am still searching for the answer like you are. I am 50 lbs overweight now. Back in June of 2023 I was under 190 lbs. I contracted COVID (for first time after all shots and boosters) that went into sinus infectino and then to a serious bronchial infection. Took 3 months to get over it with antibiotics and steriods. Eate every snack and icecream I could find to help my extreme sore throat and feel better. Then still took me another 2 months to get back to feeling to exercise at level I was before.
I am now tring to reduce the snacking in between meals and find ones I like that are low calorie. I upped my exercise a little more and this last week I did lose a pound. So for me maybe I have to live with small reduction in weight over time and not expect the big losses I used to.
Good luck on your journey!

Welcome to Connect, so many of us have struggled with weight loss (and regain) and strive to find a solution. No matter what solution you decide, changing your lifestyle can be hard. Fibromyalgia and arthritis can make exercising difficult, but any increase in movement helps.
Have you talked to your primary doctor about options? Are you considering surgery?
My name is Jody. I have a wonderful husband of 25 years and 3 amazing boys. My boys are getting older, and I realized that my weight loss journey has gone nowhere. I have tried all the fad diets on the market, and initially, I lost weight, but eventually, it all came back, and then some.
I also have fibromyalgia and arthritis in all my joints. In addition, I am soon to be 55 years old and the weight just isn't coming off like it did before. To be honest I don't want to lose weight and then gain it all back again. I need a more permeant strategy to keep the weight off.
The total knee replacement has been mentally and physically the hardest. I will be starting my intermittent fasting again. I’m going to talk to my PCP before doing so. I seem to do well with that. Less inflammation too.
@brenlee, welcome. Surgeries are hard at the best of times. Are you finding recovering from surgeries to be challenging with the gains you've made? Are you continuing with intermittent fasting?
Well done and congratulations. Little victories count, but that was a big victory.
Good morning, my name is Brenda and I had gastric bypass in 8/2/21. I had no complications following surgery. My highest weight was 295 at the time of surgery. I got down to 208 and was stuck there. I hadn’t been able to break the 200 pound mark in the last 20 years on any diet program I was on. I maintained that weight for a while but of course, I found a way to eat through my gastric bypass. I gained back to 248 pounds.
In April I decided to go on an intermittent fasting program. I felt I had gone through surgery to be at an healthier weight and I was sabotaging myself. It wasn’t until this program and the daily educational tools that I was given, did I feel that my brain was finally caught up with my gastric bypass and I went from 248 down to 187. Breaking the 200 pound mark. At first I thought intermittent fasting wasn’t something that would work for me. But what did I have to lose. I’ve done pretty well at maintaining this loss and plan on another round shortly, to take off the little bit of weight I’ve gain after total knee replacement surgery.
October 12th my gallbladder had to be removed, along with a small intestine blockage repair. I figured the gallbladder was a given because of my decision for surgery. I went back to the same hospital and one of the bariatric doctors from the clinic I went to preformed the surgery. The small bowel blockage was caused by scar tissue and decreased adipose tissue in my abdominal region. Crazy how things move around, when one loses that abdominal fat.
On 12/5, I had a total right knee replacement, which I knew was in the cards and am currently recovering from that.
I don’t regret my choice for gastric bypass. But when the doctors tell you to take your supplements to help with bone health and to help maintain your vitamins and minerals at a healthy level, it’s best to follow their directive. I’ve got osteopenia and will be seeing an ortho doctor for my spine and one for my shoulder. That’s me in a nutshell. I’m 58 years old and working on myself to have a healthy and active life as I try and age gracefully.
Hi, I had a wonderful time with my son and his family on Christmas Day. My daughter in-law had a wonderful meal! We had Steak with Jumbo Shrimp Cabobs and Greenbean casserole and corn. I ate 1/2 of the steak, and 1/2 of the shrimp. I had about 3 or 4 bites of the veggies and left the desert alone. She was very thoughtful about making sure I got my protein in. I brought what I had on my plate home and had that for my supper. I received some sweet goodies from my neighbor, and I ate one now and then during the week. I was pleased with myself for not eating the whole tin at one sitting, LOL. I am still losing weight and have to start doing my exercises now that my ribs are not in so much pain after I fell before Christmas. My own fault. Will be going out to eat on New Years Eve, but I will be bringing home left overs for the next day. Will most likely be having steak or fish! Have a wonderful New Year and stay positive. I have to say, I handled the Holiday Season better than I expected. I get depressed at this time of year.
