Excellent question. Hopefully other members of group can share their experience with monitoring blood sugar after surgery.
I would ask your care team, maybe the nutritionist can give you some advice. Or ask if they can set up an appointment with a diabetic educator that specializes in bariatric patients.
Everyone's experience with Dumping Syndrome is different. I had only one problem, after eating mashed potatoes from a supermarkets deli. Probably had too much butter / dairy then my system was ready for. Key is to stick to diet and some trial and error to see what you can tolerate.

HI everyone! I am excited about having the Roux En Y surgery done. The only question I have is about what if my blood sugars drop too low after I have had the surgery, and I am not allowed to eat anything to get my numbers up. I am assuming I can drink something with sugar in it, but I am concerned about what I hear as Dumping Syndrome. I have just started seeing a Nutritionist and a kidney doctor and have other appointments prior to my surgery.
I have tried weight watchers, fasting, keto, no carb, when was on the wegovy shot for a while. With have Crohn’s disease I can’t eat a lot of food that most people can!

Welcome to group.
What have you tried? Some people are successful with programs like Weight Watchers others need additional assistance. There are many options currently with diets, meal replacements, medication and surgery. There is not one solution that fits everyone. I think I tried everything before finally having surgery, that was over 10 years ago. It is important to pick a program you can follow and fits your lifestyle.
The first step might be talking to your primary care provider about options and a referral.
Seeing you are in Eau Claire, Wi, your medical care is probably from Mayo Health System or Gunderson. Both have weight loss programs.

Hi my name is Kyilee! I live in the local Eau Claire area! I have always had problems with my weight since I was younger and I am now looking to help my body and ensure that I live a good life. I have Crohn’s disease and with the steroids that I was put on I have struggled with significant weight gain in the past two years. I’m super excited to chat with all of you!
I had the Sleeve Gastrectomy in 2012 and lost 95 pounds. My blood sugars were "normal" within hours after the surgery. My advice is to make EXERCISE a habit and get the psychological help you need to change your relationship with food. Since losing the 95 pounds, I have gained back 40 pounds and will be getting the Roux-en-y gastric bypass in December. Over time, your stomach will stretch to accommodate larger portions, if you don't control portions. Please don't be afraid of food, just learn to eat "healthy!" Good luck on your weight loss journey!
Hello.
I had ESG (endoscopic gastric sleeve) a year and a half ago and have lost just over 100 pounds!! My A1C went from 10 to 5 within the first six weeks after the procedure. I had a battle with excess pounds for at least 14 years. The biggest challenge for me is being too strict on what I eat and being afraid of food. This is partly because for work I typically travel out of state each week for work. Plus, planning meals with being away from home is difficult. But, so far I have been successful.
Hello. 56 female, 5.2 1/2 and 225 lbs. I'm 100 pounds heavier than when graduating H.S. Have lots of health issues related to weight, and doing the Sleeve Surgery. Any warnings or success stories would be appreciated
Hi to new members, especially those consider weight loss surgery.
I had my Roux-en-Y gastric bypass over 10 years ago. I have had my ups and down, but I am at lowest weight for long time and my medical history no longer has "obese".
Preparing for surgery, actual surgery and post-op process is long process. The more education and preparation you do prior to surgery, the better the outcome.
The first step is discuss with primary provider and ask for referral to specialist.
You may also want to check with your insurance company as to coverage.

Hi my name is Becca.
I am from Wisconsin.
I am looking into the bariatric surgery options after a lifetime of issues being overweight as well as the 'yo-yo' effect. I am looking for the right tools and treatments to help sustainability as well as prevent any additional health problems at this point.
