On the path to Bariatric Surgery: What are the next appointments?

In my program, I had an appointment with a cardiologist for surgery clearance before I received the referral to one of the surgeons. That came after the nutritionist and psychological exam. It wasnt really different from what is often part of any pre-op procedure.

Understanding all of the possible Post Operative Complications that go along with this surgery. Discuss this with your Surgeon at length. Research it yourself. This surgery can cause major health complications. Sometimes years down the road, for others, it can be immediate.

If you are diabetic or have any hormonal problems (thyroid, adrenal, etc.) you may be referred to an endocrinologist.

As others have mentioned, you may need to have other evaluations based on health history. Each clinic has its own requirements and process.

Will you be attending pre-surgery education classes? That is usually an requirement prior to surgery.
