Bad dreams with Arikayce?

Posted by eileen86 @eileen86, Oct 8 7:35pm

I just recently started using Arikayce for the first time. I have started having bad dreams - the type where you wake up and can’t breathe because your fear is too great and your chest hurts too much.

Since I am not normally prone to nightmares, I wondered if it could be the Arikayce. I don’t see anything in the drug’s literature. Anyone experience this? Thanks.

I'm not on MAC meds and don't have experience with this. I did take a brief look at side effects and adverse events and didn't see nightmares or sleep disturbances. I did see bronchospasms listed. You said you can't breathe and chest hurts when you wake up. I'm wondering if this might be related or causing dreams. Just trying to think of an explanation.

IMO, it's worth notifying your doc for 2 reasons. The way you wake up with chest hurting and difficulty breathing seems concerning and needs to be looked into soon (imo). It's also important to sleep.

Responding to this will bump it for you, too. I hope others on Arikayce respond.
Good luck to you I hope you get some help..

Thanks, Cathy! I will speak to the doctor next week when I have a regularly scheduled appointment.

I just hate crying wolf, you know?

@eileen86 I know we hate "crying wolf," but we also need to advocate for ourselves. (I'm not good at this myself."
Would you be comfortable calling doc's office, telling them problem and asking if it's ok to wait? Asking via MyChart is also an easy way to get opinion if they have it.
Just a thought. Your call.

Always err on the side of caution. Better to be safe than sorry. I tell myself this frequently. It has served me well.

@eileen86 I have had this happen to me since on Arikayce. I wake up with so much fear/adrenalin in my body, I assume it was a bad dream but I don't remember anything. It has only happened a couple times but it is new and pretty extreme. I don't know if it is the drug or just the result of stress. Treatment has been bumpy for me. I don't have difficulty breathing or chest pain though, just a crazy amount of what feels like fear. I have had so many weird things on the drugs this hasn't even come close to making the discussion list. If it persists I may raise it. If you learn anything on the issue, hope you will share. Thanks.
