Back pain after injury

Posted by wbb098 @wbb098, 4 days ago

I know no one here can fully diagnose, but can maybe give some suggestions. I recently fell and injured my back and am experiencing lower back pain, along with hip pain that goes down the side of my leg to about my knee, and hip pain when going to the bathroom. Originally after the injury I had severe muscle spasms to the point where I could not move. It has gotten better, but the symptoms such as leg pain started over the past few days. The pain in my legs tends to be intermittent as well.

@gravity3 I have not. I am trying to see if it is important enough to need too.

wbb, you're being reasonable. I'd suggest that you not be. I'd want an MRI especially of the hip. "Originally" was how long ago? Can you tell us a bit about how you sustained the injury. Welcome to Connect.

@gently originally was about 2.5 weeks ago so it has not been that long. I fell sideways off of a high stool reaching for the tv remote, but landed on my back. I felt fine for about 30 minutes and then got sudden horrible pain in my lower back.

@wbb098 muscle pains can resolve themselves even disc injury can sometimes resolve itself. It's the possibility of fracture that is concerning. If you had a hairline fracture, say, in your hip, it could become a displaced fracture with continued normal use. It could be significant to know sooner than later.
It sounds like muscle involving your pelvic floor muscles, but could be dislocation or other damage to the sacrum or pelvic arch.
Most hip fractures occur from a fall to the side.
It is possible to have fractured a vertebra in this type of fall.
I know how you feel. I'm exactly the same. I fell off a 3 foot garbage can backward and skipped imaging. But that thinking is foolish, especially with continuing or new onset pain. I don't think an xray is sufficient. It really is best to have an MRI and pray to find out that you didn't need it after all.

@gently thank you so much for the advice. I think I will try and get it for an MRI as soon as possible.

wbb098, your primary might order an MRI over by phone or chart request. I'll be praying that it doesn't reveal anything interesting and hope that the pain goes away before you can get one scheduled.
