B12 and Ferritin Levels

Posted by acole89 @acole89, Nov 29, 2023

Hello All; I received my blood work results and everything came back normal but I noticed my b12 and ferritin look pretty low. b12 is at 194 and ferritin at 42. Wondering if I should supplement as I have been more anxious lately. If so how much to supplement. Not sure how to increase ferritin levels. Thanks in advance 🙂 Amy

Make sure you talk to provider about levels and what they recommend.

My Ferritin tends to be low, one provider recommended supplement Vitron C. It is iron with Vit C that helps absorption of iron. Not cheap, you may want to google and see if there are generic version.

I am currently taking Slow-FE Iron to maintain my Ferritin.

Did your provider check your thyroid, TSH?

@acole89, @roch, and all...My first suggestion is do nothing until you have a good and open discussion with your doctor who ordered the tests. Ferritin is not usually ordered in a normal bloodwork so your doctor must have some inclinging you have an issue there.

I have intestinal issues, absorption problems with low B12, low Ferritin, low D3, and other stuff...so we watch my various levels carefully and follow up with whatever works for me.

I will not in my case begin taking over the counter supplements without a clear discussion with my doctor. I have excellent primary and hematology doctors who know me and my body well. I take any new supplements or a picture of them prior to adding for their assessment. They can throw off
balances and I want them to agree with any additions.

Low Ferritin levels indicate anemia of some sort, as I u derstand it in my case, even tho the regular bloodwork may appear normal. Did he do a full iron profile, too? That can help with indicators
, etc.

I had an iron jv infusion today! I take an iron Ferritin sule.ent my he.atogist recommended that helps keep Ferritin levels up a bit longer and is less difficult on the digestive tract, less constipation and nausea, stronger and the best for me. Vitron C was great for the 1st year. But constipation became a serious problem and it stopped helping the iron issue.

So, if you trust your doc, check with him for direct, clear answers to why the Ferritin test, what were his concerns there, what does he think is going on with B12 and Ferritin, are they linked, absorption issues, recommendations moving forward.??

If your Ferritin stays or goes lower, after taking proper supplements for proper time, then infusions do help if warranted. I'll have an infusion annually of lore as needed. Works for me! I feel better almost immediately, always within couple days. It varies, but begin to get my life energy back and have an improved quality of life. I'm 77 years old. Both these and been unknown issues for years! I'm now with proper care living a better life than in decades!!!

Blessings as you walk this crazy journey...
