azithromycin by itself for post treatment protocol

After completing the Big Three protocol for MAC, has anyone been advised to take azithromycin (without any other drug) three times/weekly to reduce the possibility of a recurrence and as possible treatment for bronchiecstasis? If so, what did your doctor say about the possibility of developing resistance? Anyone know of any literature supporting this? I realize that there are mixed opinions in the medical field about doing this.

Hello. I am taking 250 mg Azithromycin daily because 3 years of treatment with the three drug regimen did not get rid of my MAC intracellular. I am also worried about developing a resistance to Azithromycin. Somehow my doctor and I haven’t gotten around to discussing this issue.

Hi @jeanarizona,
Just read your note about taking Azithromycin for 3 years, are you still taking it? Have you developed antibiotics resistance? My pulmonologist asks me to take it to prevent staph flare ups, but my ID doctor worries about the antibiotics resistance. I am hoping they can reach agreement.

Would like to hear your expereince.

Thanks!
