Hi , is it safe to tapper from 3milagrams of Ativan a day to 2 a day
Hi, it’s possible but not a good idea because it’s a big step in a short time, I would like to ask you how long have you been taking Ativan and perhaps what doctor prescribed it for you and why, lots of questions but relevant. At this point I’m inclined to say that you need to see your doctor and discuss your decision to taper off the medication and maybe get some help with it. There are many discussions about this subject here and you can find many other people who have been doing this too, best wishes.
Agree. And you need a very slow taper.
I agree on the slow taper, I was going to do the 2 milagrams for a few months , I just was wondering if it was safe to go from 3 milagrams a day to 2 a day
If you’re going to do a slow taper then you wouldn’t want to decrease your dose by a whole pill, it might cause you a very rough time when the withdrawal sets in. I tried to decrease my dose by half a pill, 0.5mg. and after a week or so I started feeling very sick but that’s me, perhaps your experience will be more tolerable, either way you should be doing this with the help of a doctor who is experienced with benzodiazepines, best wishes.
You need to have a Doctor to reduce the dose. To do this on your own is very dangerous.
Usually the dose is reduced every 2 to 4 weeks by 10%.
At very low doses, it is decreased by 5%.
Please check out the Ashton manual, online and free.
My sentiments exactly, this is why I said that a doctor experienced in benzodiazepines should be involved with the taper. The Ashton Manuals is the best example for doing a proper withdrawal and I too would highly suggest using it for the best possible outcome.
Also, please do not go to a detox facility where they get you off in a matter of weeks! You can look this up and the disastrous consequences.
May I recommend the Documentary on Tubi (free channel) "As Prescribed". also ,on you tube, do a search for Dr. Heather Ashton, author of the Ashton Manual. She died in 2013, so this was around 20 years ago, where she speaks in great detail about Benzodiazapines. She is considered to be the world's foremost authority. I am new here so I cannot link you to the video which refers to global pandemic, or the free online manual for Benzodiazapine withdrawal, but it is on you tube + Professor Ashton or benzos + Dr. Ashton. well, you get the point.
