Are you seeing a ENT? How about a pulmonologist?

Have your doctors recommended Mucinex?

@sharrondriver
I have something in my throat (a nerve) that I am told is overly sensitive and makes body create more mucus in throat and sinuses. Thus I get a lot of mucus in throat that you mentioned that I have trouble coughing it up.

I found worse times with certain foods and allowing my body to cough it up when if feels like to do rather than force it. I think when we force it we cause more irritation and thus more mucous.

I know the single formula Mucinex was recommended by my ENT and PCP. It really does help make the mucus and phlegm less stick and thick. Asked your doctors about using it and also hydrating.

Hi Sharon,
I'm sorry you are having such problems! My husband had lung cancer and took Albuterol and it helped him a lot. He was very congested. Mucinex like jc76 suggested is a very good suggestion! My husband used that also and it helped immensely. You can order it through Amazon. It's not a prescription drug. However talk to your doctor first because you may be taking some other medication that could react with it.

Prayer also helps too! Just ask God for help. He made you and he can fix you! I'll say a prayer for you too.

I wish you the best!

Hi Sharon,
Sorry to hear of such severe problems. I am a steroid dependent asthmatic for many years. Please consider not doing the sodium chloride nebulizers - it was a good treatment, but has now been found to more harmful than helpful. In its place, go into a steamy bathroom for no more than 10 minutes (more can raise your body temperature). This can help loosen secretions. You can do this several times a day. Speak with your pulmonologist if they want you on any steroids - inhaled or nebulizer. Increase fluids - this will help thin secretions. There are many biologics - but that may be considered down the road, only if your md thinks it is good for you. There are some new anticholinergics (Yulperi) which are by nebulizer - also - used only as prescribed. Some asthmatics get worse with Guaifenesin (Robitussin) ingredients - so look at this if you are taking Muscinex or other cold/flu preparations that have this. Raise the head of your bed - either put a wedge or blanket under the top part of your mattress or use more pillows to raise your head. Ask your md about any nasal inhaled steroids as well - flonase. I am not endorsing any products - just giving you information.
Do NOT take anything without your md's knowledge. They will help you get through this. Good luck and feel better.

I was about to recommend Mucinex which I was first introduced to while in the hospital with pneumonia for 7 days. I was delighted to see others recommending it to you also. My allergist agreed that whenever my allergies are going extra strong to add Mucinex to my regimen. It has made a significant difference in my life. Before using it when needed, I was hospitalized with pneumonia 3 times. Please speak with your allergist about using it when needed.

I don't know if this knowledge will help, I too have asthma and have had it for several years. I use Alvesco everyday and Albuterol only when needed. My go to for more help in dealing with asthma and excess mucus is Elderberry syrup and Quercetin. " I use these only when needed.
"Elderberry syrup is a potent, nutrient-dense supplement derived from Sambucus nigra berries, widely used to boost immune health, reduce inflammation, and shorten the duration of cold and flu symptoms. Rich in antioxidants like anthocyanins, it supports respiratory health and provides vitamins C and dietary fiber. It is commonly used as a natural remedy for viral infections and to improve overall wellness."
"Quercetin is a potent flavonoid antioxidant found in many fruits and vegetables, offering significant anti-inflammatory, allergy-relieving, and cardiovascular benefits. Studies indicate it helps lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, manage allergy symptoms"

I agree with what everyone else has said about Mucinex. I use it in the morning and take Robitussin in the evening. You need to find what works for you.
The Mucinex really does cut down on the secretions, though.
