ASCO: GLP-1 Receptor Agonist Initiation Cuts Metastatic Progression

This was talked about for couple of years now and it seems that hypothesis proved to be correct.

Here are some articles that actually mentioned prostate cancer and GLP-1. Mostly in relation to Having fewer people get prostate cancer and fewer metastasis.
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11479428/
ASCO highlighted four studies — some of which were published in its affiliated Journal of Clinical Oncology. The most prominent among them tracked medical and prescription records of over 10,000 patients with early-stage cancer, and found GLP-1s reduced cancer risk in 6 out of 7 cancers — four of them at statistically significant levels. Breast, liver, colorectal and non-small cell lung cancer risks declined significantly; kidney and prostate declined somewhat; pancreatic cancer rates were affected the least.

Yes, it applies to PC also , that is why I posted it : ))). 👍 I am terribly busy today so did not have time to type additional info and links , I apologize and thanks for pointing it out so that other know why it is posted here 💗.
PS: How are you doing today : ))) ?! I hope that progress is fast and pain much less prominent. 🍀
@surftohealth88
I am doing quite good. I can’t sit on everything but it’s getting a lot more comfortable.
I only posted more because the first link you put in didn’t have the word prostate in it.

That is really great to hear 😊👍 ! You always heal extra fast and I have no doubt that very soon you will be "like new" 🍀
Now you tell me. Could have save a lot of trouble just taking a GLP1 rather than the ADT. However, doubt the GLP1 is as effective. They are really good at controlling glucose and weight.
@jim18
It does not look as effective. It appears that it slows growth doesn’t stop it like ADT or the patch.

1 ReactionIf you drill down into the information it states there was some improvement but no real statistical improvement with prostate cancer. I'll take any small % advantage i can get. Getting ready to start zepbound because I have really gained weight during my two years on eligard and xtandi. Just finished in Feb. Starting to feel a little more like my old self again.
"For 3 other cancer types—prostate, pancreatic, and kidney—the GLP-1 group had fewer instances of metastasis than the gliptin group, but the differences were not statistically significant."

1 ReactionIt seems that controlling runaway inflammation thru glucose metabolism may be the key to something; metformin can help, and now GLP1’s.
Of course, you cannot live without glucose (our body will make it if it has to), but there must be some enzyme, molecule or receptor site somewhere that allows these substances to exert some anti-proliferative effect.
I heard Jeff Bezos talking about his new startup Prometheus: an AI application for inventors, engineers and physicists ONLY; take years off an idea or technology coming to fruition.
There are others working in the bio-medical field with similar goals. 🤞🤞

@dwb1 The study did not use a true placebo. The DPP4s used for control extend natural GLP1s life in the body by suppressing the enzyme that eliminates them. DPP4s are about 40% as effectiveness as GLP1 jabs in glucose control; not anywhere close for weight.

1 Reaction@heavyphil There are big investments by most of the major pharma companies in AI. Thought is to minimize the time between the patent of a new medication and the FDA approval for marketing. That is worth billions to them since it decreases the dead money investment time and extends the high dollar sales time before the drug goes generic.
There is big money being spent in glucose control research (supercharged by the proven link to weight control) and a lot of the receptors / pathways already have drug classes (GLP1/DPP4, SGLT2) that did not exist a few years ago. However, they still do not know what causes Insulin resistance (cells not responding to insulin to take in glucose) which is the basis for type 2 diabetes.
