Are you happy with your Artificial Urinary Sphincter?
Has anyone here had the above procedure done and if so are you happy with it. The Urologist is recommending it for my 80 yr old husband. Thank you very much for your input.

I’m 79 and had an AUS installed via outpatient surgery 6 months ago. I went from about 11-12 pads a day to 0. Hardly any leaking incidents and I can mostly avoid them by getting up carefully from hard surfaces or prepping myself if a strong sneeze is coming. There’s tenderness in the testicals but it’s hardly noticeable. For me, the AUS has been wonderful, letting me function essentially like a normal person.

Thank you!
@lsk1000 Thanks for your reply. My husband has used a clamp for 20 years successfully - however this time he didnt keep a good eye on placement and it caused an ulcer which has taken over 2 mos. to heal, hence the foley catheter. Glad the clamp works well for you but keep your eye on placement etc as things can go wrong.

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure if my husband changed the location with every clamp. Just be extra careful.

1 Reactionthanks for your reply. Glad it is working well for you and wish it still was working for my husband as these other options dont sound so good.
@rob275 Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear it is working well for you! My husband is 80 and has other health issues and I worry that the AUS might cause him more suffering and he has suffered enough. Have an appt w the urologist next Friday and will find out more info, i.e is my husband strong enough to go through the procedure etc and what other options are.

I have used the Weisner clamp for a few years. As you mentioned, when it’s on, I really don’t feel it, unless it’s been on for more than a couple of hours. You do make sure to not wear it for more than two hours without repositioning it.
People have reported some serious problems from leaving a clamp on too long.
@mirsy there will be a couple small incisions and a major cut from hole to hole. I had to use a cushion for a couple of weeks. J got baseballs and many colors. Be careful of the big incision. Mine opened up a couple of times. But all is well when healed.
