Cell Phones Issues with Arthritic Fingers - Any Suggestions?

Posted by dennismm @dennismm, Jan 6 7:28am

Well, this might be a limited problem, I don’t know how many of you have this problem, but I’ll make an attempt anyway.

Like almost everyone today I rely on my cellphone. Apple iPhone. A couple of my fingers on my right hand are slightly bent making it next to impossible to hit the correct letters on the keypad. I want to type an h but wind up with the next key over.

I’ve tried voice dictation, but sometimes it’s just not practical. Has anyone been able to find a different keypad that they downloaded with larger keys? Yes I know the the iPhone screen has limited area for larger keys, but even slightly more spaces would help.
Thanks for reading!
Dennis

Why don’t you just do everything by voice? This way, you only have to go back and make edits we’re in necessary. This way your fingers are only on the keyboard for a shorter time.

@jenatsky
Thought of that but between dog barking and noise on the house it’s will not always work.

Swipe is when you drag you finger from one letter to the next to create a word instead of tapping each letter. It would be in your settings but depends on your phone make and model. Probably best to Google it.

@dennismm - Actually you can do it on the iPhone. Works on my iPhone 17 but I don't find it easy to use.
Enable Swipe to Type (QuickPath)
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap General.
- Tap Keyboard.
- Find the "Slide to Type" option and toggle the switch to the On (green) position. (It's often on by default on newer iOS versions).

Use a stylist. You know the pen with the tip on the end.

iPhone has a screen rotation lock. If it is currently unlocked, you should be able to rotate the phone and view the screen horizontally. This would widen the keyboard, which may make it easier for you. The lock/unlock button is usually available in the control menu.

Hello. Would a keyboard help? I just saw a new device from the new tech exposition from CES. It is called Clicks Power Keyboard. They are taking orders now with a discount with shipping going out in the spring. I think it is $87.00 right now. It is a charger and keyboard that fits many devices. I saw it on the Today Show this week.
