Yes, definitely too old at 84. . I never took hormone replacements because theres a high risk of breast cancer in my family. So far, Ive escaped it.

I would say it all depends on what your doctor is treating. I’m in my 70s and because of an issue I have I need to take it to keep things under control.
I would say do what your doctor recommends

Look for a menopause expert such as Barbara Taylor, Mary Claire Haver or Louise Newsome. There are others. A regular family practitioner may know little about it.

At 72 years old I wondered that myself and went down the rabbit hole. Here is one interesting article and I actually found many more where they are now backtracking on the “adverse effects of hormone therapy” based on very old studies using oral synthetic hormones instead of the newer transdermal or intra vaginal bio-identical hormones. When I first started through menopause I used transdermal progesterone which worked amazing for stopping my hot flashes. Years later and further into menopause when vaginal dryness and atrophy set in along with poor sleep and osteopenia (I hadn’t been on hormones for years) I tried bio-identical estrogen and progesterone but kept getting cramps, breast tenderness and renewed hot flashes and gave up because I have always been super sensitive to drugs and hormones. (Couldn’t take birth control pills way back when without nausea and vomiting) Now, with the newly diagnosed beginning of osteoporosis at age 72 I am thinking about trying the intra-vaginal bio-identical cream after having my first ever case of bacterial vaginosis which my doc said was due to dryness and PH changes in the vagina. Be forewarned that you may find it difficult to find a doctor willing to prescribe it, however the female nurse practitioner I just started seeing when we moved to Texas was on board with a trial. If you can’t find a doctor you can look up a compounding pharmacy in your area and ask them for the names of a local doctor prescribing bio-identical hormones at their pharmacy.

I started using the biote pellet at the age of 67, ten years after menopause. I am now 72. My primary care doctor is ok with it
