Aquablation with TURP?
I am scheduled for BPH surgery soon due to urinary difficulties and my urologist, who first suggested Aquablation, says that he wants to follow up the Aquablation with TURP (during same surgery). I am choosing Aquablation because of the low side-effect profile so I have questioned my urologist about the need for TURP. He is a little vague about it but seems to say it is to remove any remaining tissue left over from the Aquablation. I do have a large (114 mL) prostate and have heard that there is sometimes more tissue left in that case. Yet I am worried that he might cause RE or other undesired side-effects. Has anyone else had both done during same surgery and, if so, what were your results in terms of side-effects? Thank you.

@rjackb - I only had aquablation - it was 5+ months ago - but I continue to learn about the procedure. Basic aquablation does leave some prostate tissue in tact as the prostate gets hollowed out. So maybe the idea of also TURP makes sense?
My doctor does both Aquablation and TURP. In my case he said he would need to do TURP if he did Aquablation because Aquablation leaves some areas rough. As a result he suggested doing just TURP. So I do think there are situations where both could be required. I think it depends on what material needs removal. In my case it was median lobe.
