Anyone taking Flecainide and Prozac, or some other SSRI?
I have been on Prozac for 30 years. It helps with my Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety and my periods of Depression. About 18 years ago, I wore a heart monitor and it detected an episode of Paroxysmal AFib and some tachycardia. I was immediately put on Eliquis 5mg twice a day and Flecainide 50mg daily. Well, yesterday I saw my PCP for my annual physical and he had received a note from my insurance to share with me concerning some possible interaction between Flecainide and Prozac (fluoxetine) that could be dangerous. After a bit of discussion it was decided for me to just stick with the 10mg of Prozac that I take daily. The PCP checked, and it appears that ANY SSRI antidepressant can have the same possible interaction with Flecainide. But... I am a worrier... so now I'm worrying about staying on the Prozac since it "could" interact in a negative way with the Flecainide. Just wondering if there are others out there taking Flecainide and Prozac and experiencing no problems? Also, has anyone taken the two together and had problems? I've been taking both for 18 months and have not notice any issues. And I don't "feel" my AFib or Tachycardia episodes. Loop recorder to be implanted tomorrow and that will at least keep track of any episodes I have. Thank you!!

Don’t know about interaction between those two drugs, but there is some research indicating that ssri’s can damage heart valves.
Just thought I’d share that in case it’s of interest to you or another reader.

1 ReactionI found this article, relatively recent. It suggests that in some patients caution must be taken if prescribing an SSRI, possibly an SNRI and flecainide at the same time. SSRIs can augment the effects of the AAD like fluoxetine (Prozac).
