Anyone on Dupixent for both chronic hives and asthma ?
I have BE and was diagnosed with asthma a few months ago . About 2 years ago my allergist started me on Xolair for chronic hives and it has worked great . Now with the asthma diagnosis , the pulmonologist is wanting to switch me to Dupixent for better asthma control . She also said it would treat the hives. The allergist wants to keep me on Xolair, because he believes Dupixent won’t be enough for the hives Sometimes I feel like the asthma could be better controlled .

I am on Dupixent for chronic hives and it has been helpful. I also have mild asthma, but am just on Advair for that. I was on Xolair for hives first. It was slow to help then I got a good, but partial remission for 6 weeks before they became severe again. I’ve been on Dupixent since August and it has worked much better and kept them mostly in mild/moderate range using the UAS tool. I haven’t had any in past couple weeks (whisper).
I have asthma, but it is mild and cough variant. I had been controlled on Advair since diagnosis until this colder and windier winter and my little cough gradually came back. I msged pulmonologist about 3 weeks ago, they increased dose and it’s working again. I don’t think the biological meds impact my asthma, but my eosinophils were not elevated. From what I’ve read, Xolair targets eosinophils and works best if they’re elevated in both hives and asthma.
Here’s a study comparing the two for asthma.

Good luck!. Urticaria is a miserable condition.
Note-I wrote note and it wouldn’t post. Cut/pasted (also fussy today) and hope it makes sense.

1 ReactionThank you for your response . Yes, hives are miserable . I haven’t had a single flare since starting Xolair , so the allergist really wants me to stay on it. He doesn’t think Dupixent works as well for hives. The pulmonologist thinks my asthma could be better controlled with the Dupixent, so it’s hard to know who to believe lol. The allergist office has to get the Xolair pre authorized with insurance , which is a big pain for them . They recently just finished that time consuming task , so I’m wondering if that may weigh in to him wanting me to stay on Xolair . Idk. I may need to wait until a new year , with a new preauthorization .
I just don’t want the hives to come back if I switch to Dupixent. Life gets tricky with these coexisting conditions !
