Anyone in (or have been to) the Pain Rehab Clinic?

Posted by cork179 @cork179, Jun 25, 2012

I have seen 2 docs who both are recommending I enter the PRC at Mayo in Jax. I would love to know what to expect. Success stories. How you felt during it? Anything.

Thanks.

Was hoping for info on MCI for my husband—then discovered more topics, including PRC & chronic pain. . .

@jojo123456 reading your testimonial about the PRC gave me the sense that you found a new lease on life to take on such an amazing trip despite your pain.

What was the most beneficial part of the experience for you, personally, that you would like other members to know if they are considering?

Waitlisted. I’m hoping the PRC will help- life is already a struggle for me since I already have severe fibromyalgia, sleep disorder, GI and other issues that the rehab center says they can improve🙏🏻

They scheduled me for a trip there to be accessed for a 2 day to 1 week session of classes dealing with pain management and chronic illness. I spoke to another person who was asked to do the same thing. Is this something they do to everyone and has anyone who has been to Mayo actually gone to these? if so, how was it and did it do any good?
It is a long expensive trip if it is not going to help me.

Hi @gastrogirl, Yes, there are quite a few members who have been through Mayo Clinic's Pain Rehabilitation Class also known as PRC. You will see that I moved your post to a discussion about PRC and am tagging some members like @jojo123456, @skier, and @rwinney who have experienced it.

What are the current symptoms you are faced with? Are you currently on any medications?

@gastrogirl Hello. I'm catching up to your post about Mayo PRC. I graduated the program last October and can attest that given your diagnosis, you will greatly benefit from attending. It was a life changing experience for me. Are there any specific questions you have?

@cerwin Hi there. I see you are waitlisted for Mayo PRC. Any updates yet on when you might be getting in? I think its awesome that you are pursuing the program. Good for you! That tells me you want change and don't want to settle. Based on what you describe, you will find incredible benefit to your health and life overall. As a graduate of PRC, I would love to answer any questions you may have. What would you like to know?

Has mindful meditation practice helped to lower chronic pain for Mayo Clinic's PRC graduates?

@skier Hi Roger. Yes, it has. Anything that centers, calms, and
focuses you has natural benefit in lowering chronic pain. I learned breathing techniques at PRC via bio feedback which help lower my flares. Are you still on track for starting PRC in August?

I am not sure it can help me much once I got the info in the mail. I am no ton any meds, so med management is not an issue for me. I have no pain either. Just constant nausea and inability to eat or keep on weight. Stress and depression is more my issues. And as far as the physical conditioning part of the 3 week program., I am struggling to weigh 100 lbs now. I am told to rest and not burn any calories at all. So there is no way I can afford to burn any calories. Can you give me any info about if this is all a part of what everyone does who is in the program? Is it mostly about med management? I do not have pain either, just burning tummy pain when eating, but nothing I do will ever change that. I will always have this disease.
