@shirley71 I am turning 80. My Dr said
he wouldn’t recommend it as you would most likely get dementia. I am treating at Allina Cancer center in Anoka, MN.

@cindythomas108, did your scans show any tumors in the brain? There are different types of brain radiation. Some are harder on the tissues than others.

@lls8000 No sign of cancer so far but could show up there or somewhere else. I will start my 2nd set of chemo and start radiation in 2 days.

@ralpg2024 Thank you. May i ask if you are anywhere close to my age. 72. They say the side effects are more likely to happen the older you are.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer back before Christmas 2025. A stat brain MRI showed mets to the skull and brain. I was expedited to meet the radiology oncologist right after the holiday, where they made the "mask for me. On New Year's Eve, they did cyberknife radiation to just where the skull metastasis was. It had been painful for months, as I thought I bumped my head in that exact place. Within a few days, the pain was gone and the bump went away! The only issue was severe discomofort after I came home, and when I called the emergency number, a covering doctor told me to take the cortisone pill I'd just been prescribed for the chemo and fortunately, that helped tremendously. I am guessing preventative means all over brain radiation. I don't know about that. If there is no cancer there, I doubt I would do whole brain radiation.
