Anyone else's teeth turning or turned orange
Today I glanced in rear view mirror before I put my sunglasses on and noticed my teeth are turning orange.
Did anyone else develop a dry cough?
Feet starting to feel weird. I can't pinpoint it a burning feeling or swelling.
I will take off my shoes and wiggle my toes and they feel very stiff.
I started antibiotics May 14
Side effects starting to kick in?
My thyroid medicine has been changed to a higher dose, white blood cells very low.
Today my wbc even lower and thyroid numbers higher.

The rifampin will turn your teeth orange. I upped my dental cleanings to 4 times a year to get rid of the stain. As soon as you stop the rifampin the stain will go away.
I see you got a response about the orange. My hygienist said there was some staining on the back of my teeth so upping the cleaning schedule could be very beneficial. Just let the dentist know you have this lung issue so they can minimize the aerosol spray.
I did also have a lot of foot pain and stiffness. Be sure to let your Dr know as if it’s neuropathy I was advised that might not be reversible.
Yes, Rifabutin, Rifampin and Clofazimine all cause teeth stains. Rinsing with water through out the day and tongue scraping helps
Yes, I noticed teeth staining too and had them cleaned more frequently. It went away when I went off the meds. The feet and toe stiffness was how my neuropathy started. My doctor thought it was due to the ethambutol. I had to quit the meds after 16 months because the neuropathy was getting worse.
Ok my teeth staining from the rifampin is SO BAD. Given others comments I had planned on quarterly teeth cleanings. I had my regular cleaning about two weeks in on the rifampin. There was some staining but not crazy. Two weeks later, I looked like a pirate. I am not exaggerating. I got in on a cancellation and had another cleaning two weeks later (so only 30 days from my last) and my hygienist was like “WHOA?! How is this even possible?” Because I am having her hand scale it was a long and arduous process but she got them pretty clean. Now three days later I already see the staining at the gum line near the tongue in back. It’s crazy. What can I do?! Paying $2500 a year for teeth cleaning is one thing but when even that is not enough, YIKES!!!! My doctor seemed surprised when I told her but the literature from the pharmacy does list teeth staining as a potential side effect of the rifampin and even says it might be permanent. I do not want pirate teeth for the rest of my life. Any tips or tricks that have worked for others?
You've probably thought of it already, but I wonder if teeth bleaching strips every couple of days would help keep it to a minimum between cleanings? I did that every so often, but I didn't have as severe a problem with the staining as you've described.
@linda1334 the worst if it is along the gum line, on the bottom. But certainly in one month’s time it extended top and bottom and between all teeth. I don’t know that the whitening strips can get to the spaces between the teeth. But anything is worth a shot.
If you don't think that would work, maybe a whitening system from the dentist would work. They make a custom tray and then you put the gel in it which might get to those hard to reach places better than the strips. Obviously, the cost would be a consideration. You'd have to compare with the cost of the multiple cleanings.
I started the protocol yesterday. Within hours my pee was burnt orange. Does that mean my teeth will turn orange too?
Not necessarily. Some people have orange tears and sweat. You just have to wait and see.
