Anyone else out there dealing with neuro stuff mostly on their own?

Hello. I’m brand new here and happy to be here. I’m dealing with some frightening symptoms that are in the process of being diagnosed: one is probably something pinched in my back, and the other is yet to be known (could be MS or something else).

My legs and feet are numb from the lower thigh downward. I have numbness in my back and buttocks. And my neck feels strange.

I also have cognitive disorganization and memory trouble.

I’m afraid that I haven’t much of a support network, though I’ve found a therapist that I like. Making things harder is that I’m having to travel three hours now (each way) in order to get quality healthcare.

There’s much more to my whole health picture, but this is what belongs in this group.

Can anyone here relate?

Thank you.

I would discontinue the services of the Nurse Practitioner and find a reputable physician to assume you care needs. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) has to give you a diagnosis in order to bill your insurance company. There should be an ICD -9 code for every ailment. If you can't find a local physician then call Mayo or one of the bigger medical facilities. The "eye" doctor, for sure should be able to give you a referral and at least have him either call the referring physician or mark the referral urgent........and make it clear that you NEED to so a physician and not a PA or NP. Just my thoughts!

Best of luck with your appointment tomorrow. Make sure the physician stays seated for your entire session. I always make a list before I see my physicians and in a light-hearted manner let them know that we need to cover all my questions before the end of the appointment. I would certainly let him know about your encounter with the NP. That's great that MO keeps the NP's under the supervision of the physician....in that way it makes him accountable as well. Too many States have given the NP's and PA's to much autonomy to practice independently, which with AMA, thankfully is fighting tooth and nail! They only tend to delay being seen by a physician, complicate things and in some cases do more harm than good. Again, Just my opinion!
