Anyone doing TYMLOS full dose every other day

Posted by phaddad1966 @phaddad1966, 6 days ago

I’ve been taking TYMLOS since July 2025. Side effects are nausea, joint pain and severe exhaustion. I was prescribed this through from a rheumatologist. Saw my endocrinologist couple of weeks ago because my thyroid has been way overactive and told him about the TYMLOS and he suggested that I do it every other day. Anyone else doing this?

My endocrinologist told me that he has had excellent success with his PATIENTS with this dosage who had a hard time tolerating the side effects. It is so nice to get a break every other day from them.

@hlp123 yes. You can start off at two clicks and it goes up to eight clicks. I was on forteo at first and it was horrible. The pain was unbearable. Then they switched me to TYMLOS because it had the clicks. If I start off on the two clicks every week, I increased it by two and I was up to six and doing that every day. This was prescribed me by a rheumatologist. Then I just saw my endocrinologist last week and he told me that he had great success doing the eight clicks every other day so I’m going to listen to my endocrinologist because that break in between is wonderful. I absolutely hate the medication, but I’ve had six compression fractures in my back due to osteoporosis and I have no other choice. I wish you the best of luck and make sure you ask your doctor lots of questions.

@hlp123, yes. You have to listen for the clicks. They aren't marked on the pen. Each click represents 10mcg. The full dose is 8 clicks. Some start with one click and move up a click every day or so. If you feel unwell or achy at 4 or 5 clicks, back down for a while. One member took her time getting to 7 clicks and that was the most she could tolerate. We don't have her numbers but she did have positive bone growth at 7 clicks. I think it is wise to start low. With some the body adjusts and they end up on 8. I think the 8 click dose is too high for those with low body weight.
Tymlos may be the very best medication available for osteoporosis. Let us know how it goes for you. You'll find it easy. If at first you miss the click, you can always discard the entire dose and try again.

Clinical trials haven't signaled a change in thyroid levels while on Tymlos. Of course, that doesn't mean that they don't change with the parathyroid hormone. Still I like the reduced dose because of your symptoms. No trials have been conducted on every other day Tymlos. Trials done on the similar drug Forteo have shown that results are similar but only after 4 years on the every other day regime. I like the idea of the reduced dose better. That way you can take up to whatever level you are comfortable with.
Oh, and there have been patients reporting with the every other day dose. While good results have been reported, I haven't seen numbers.

My endocrinologist said I could start with every other day but with the full dose. So, I tried that and it is nice to have a break. I got my first injection on Wednesday and experienced pain in my back and chest, rapid heart beat, flushing right after the injection. An hour later a headache(maybe due to stress)
She said to only do the every other day for a week or two.
It seems like the click option is an empiric way people are choosing to do. I am contemplating on doing that because I got a ciabatta and I keep thinking that I will have a heart attack. I need to discuss it with the doctor.
