Anyone dealing with severe atopic dermatitis on hands?

I have had eczema for years with flare ups affecting various body parts. In past steroids were prescribed when flare ups happen and they worked. I sopped using steroids last August because of fear of bad affects of using them. I recently started having flare ups on hands and fingers. Very painful and frustrating. I have used prescribed topical ointments that work short term but it keeps coming back. I am about to start light therapy but it needs to be done 3 times a week for at least 2 months. The high priced biological products have been prescribed but the cost for Medicare patients is way too high. Hoping someone out there has suggestions?

I have just been diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. I’m in the middle of a short course of prednisone and a topical steroid cream. I was instructed to apply the cream to the reddish areas right after showering and then apply a skin lotion. I can report back and tell you if it works if that helps.

I also experience atopic dermatitis. Mine is caused by medication allergies and unfortunately, I must take a medication that causes the condition. The dermatitis deforms my fingernails, toenails and nail beds, causes large areas of skin sloughing, pain and itching to my hands and feet. In my case, it is a histamine reaction to this medication. To keep in check I take a very low dose of prednisone and 4 Allegras daily. When itching still erupts, I put my hands or feet in ice careful not to cause a cold injury. This is what works for me after looking 6 years for relief. Its not for everyone. Always consult your doctor before trying anything new.
