Anybody have bloody (ish) phlegm?

So thought I had a sinus infection, but now beginning to beleive its walking pneumonia. Fever (up to 100.7) chest tighness. Nasal passages are clear. The other day when I coughed up some phlegm, it was very pinkish-red, obviously blood, as I had not eaten anything red. This has gone on for 2-3 days. Saw an urgent care doc yesterday that did not seem too concerned, so she prescribed a Z-Pak .. Anyone else experience this?

Coughing up phlegm with blood could indicate an infection but you should get checked out thoroughly to be safe, an X-ray or ct scan and having the mucus you’re coughing up can be tested for bacteria. I really hope that you book an appointment with your doctor soon so that they can determine what is causing your symptoms, you may need some antibiotics if it’s an infection but don’t try to diagnose yourself please.

Day 4 now on ZPak, fever gone and feel much better. Phlegm coloring has turned darker red. Reserach indicates that is probably old blood. I am scheduled to see a Pulmonologist in June.

Contact your pulmonologist's office and inform them you went to urgent care. Let them know about the infection and ask if they would like to see you in office.

Sunday night I coughed up a small glop of what I say is pseudomonas. This is a recurring thing I’ve had for several months. Sudden sore throat followed by coughing up a glop of crud that seems to be coming from my upper throat area. Sore throat disappears after this happens about every two weeks. It did culture for pseudomonas, which I’ve had for years now. Sunday night it happened, but this time I had the urge to cough after 45 minutes and had a tissue full of bright red blood. Definitely shocked me! Another 45 minutes pass and I cough up another large amount with blood clots. Off to the ER. Chest X-ray negative. Very unconcerned and sent me home with basic instructions for hemoptysis. Saw my pulmonologist Tuesday and he ordered CT of chest and sinus. Yet to be done (Sunday). Coughed up small amount of blood and clot on the way home! Sent photo and he said it looked older which was a good sign. He also stopped my Eliquis and nebulizing. No fever or anything else going on. Have an ENT appointment in a week. No blood since.
I’m hoping a small blood vessel just gave out in my throat. I have a follow up with my PC today just because they saw I went to the ER and called me.
I’ve had small streaks of blood in sputum a long time ago, but never anything like this.
