Any suggestions on what time of day is best for taking Hydroxyurea?
What time of day has worked best for everyone taking hydroxyurea? Neither my doctor or pharmacy suggested a time of day that helps with any possible side effects. I'm supposed to start taking it this week. Google searches say before or after food or at bed time.

My hematologist recommended a half hour before or after eating. I was also told to drink a full glass of water with it. It is also recommended to have 64 ounces of fluids daily to guard against the toxicity of Hydroxyurea.
Taking right before bedtime gave me bad dreams, so taking sometime after dinner works best for me. (Taking in the morning made me drowsy.)
I found it works best for me to take it in the evening as well. I figured if it’s going to make me lightheaded and tired it might as well be before I go to bed.😊
I take mine before I go to bed. Works for me
I take my HU at 7PM(after dinner) every night.. That has worked out well for me…
Very interesting, I get short of breath alot
I've been on HU for 3 years now. Dr said to take both caps at same time. I take a 730pm about 1 1/2 hr after dinner and 1 1/2 hour before bedtime, as I drink at least 10 ounces of water with caps. Sometimes I also take a few spoonfuls of yogurt or cottage cheese. I think everyone is different, you just have to find your sweet spot. I have my devices set off alarm so I don't forget.
I don't sleep well and avoid taking in the evening, just in case I have any stomach issues. I take each morning with my breakfast, drink lots of water ( to help flush the toxins ) and avoid long term exposure to the sun. I take the same dosage as you do and do not have any side effects from this medication. Most of the side effects mentioned in these posts can be attributed to the aging process...dry itchy skin, bruising, fatigue, hair loss, etc. The aspirin we all probably take with our hydrea is more likely to cause stomach upset. I take coated aspirin with my meals as well. I have experienced no side effects at all in the last three years. I am 66 years old.
I have been taking Hydroxyurea 500 MG twice a day for about 5 years. I was taking in the AM and in the PM. Since my platelets are low and stabilized, I now take once a day. I have taken it in the morning and in the evening. It does not seem to matter when I take it. The drowsy monster comes upon me about 4pm every day. I can struggle through with minimal mental tasks after that until about 7 pm when I am not able to do much other than watch television. Luckily watching television requires no mental activity. Then I go to sleep about 8 pm. I have arranged to do everything demanding in my life prior to 4pm. Other than that I have no other side effects. The days of my wild late nightlife youth are over for me. I don't really miss them. I wish you all the best, from the heartland of America, Kentucky.
I take hydroxyurea, 500 MG each night at 9 pm. I have been on it for 2 months. I am a little sleepy throughout the day. I take small naps as needed. I still have enough energy to do what needs to be done.
