Any long term experience with Dr Bydon spinal stenosis surgery?

Posted by my3dogs @my3dogs, Apr 26, 2025

I have read a lot about Dr Bydon and his success with spinal stenosis surgery but can’t find anything on long-term success rates. I’m just looking to see if it’s worth having the surgery or just keep wearing back braces the rest of my life.

Hello! My husband just had L5, S1 alif and plif with Dr Bydon on 4/29. He has to wear a support belt for 3 months. The belt is extremely heavy, uncomfortable. Did you have to wear one and if so how was it for you? Any suggestions?

I had an ALIF a year ago and had to wear the heavy, uncomfortable back brace for 4 LONG months. After the 4 months the brace came off and I started PT. Six months post op I was back swimming and playing pickleball without pain (that I had endured for over 15 years)... based on my experience all I can say is to trust the process, it will get better.

Another question, my husband has leg pain in both legs at the 2 week
Mark. Mayo said it’s early and that nerves grow back at the rate of one inch per month. Did u experience anything similar?

I had nerve pain in both my legs up to the 40 day post-op mark. My surgeon had indicated that it was normal after my ALIF surgery. I was given Gabapentin for it, it helped some. At the 2 months post op mark the nerve pain was not longer there. Good luck to your husband!.

Thanks for responding. I know that he just needs to trust the process and be patient.

Can I ask what your PT was after your brace was removed? My husband hasn’t received any PT other than minimal PT with his brace on. He has to wear the brace constantly except in bed for 3 months. He hates it as it is uncomfortable but it provides support as well.
