Any false positive TB blood test results out there?

Posted by peabody88 @peabody88, Sep 17, 2018

I've been recently having some chronic health issues, but both my infectious disease specialist and I were shocked when I had my Quantiferon Gold TB blood test came back positive. When I originally asked him about false positives, he had said that the test was incredibly accurate and a false positive was unlikely; however, he recently said after doing more research he suspects it may in fact be a false positive. I'm set to have the test repeated soon, but I was just curious if anyone (or how many) people had received a false positive TB blood test before?

Hi Lenchiksf,
Just over three years ago I was very sick and they said I was positive for TB.
I did a yr of hard drugs that racked my body up bad. After a yr and a half of this they said I was better.
Still sick I was told to infectious disease doctor. I was told I had Mac. I have done another labs, ecgs, ect and three heavy antibiotics.

I was recently told after over three yrs later.

I no longer have Mac. I'm off of drugs on January 6th.
I think my body has a ways to heal but I'm happy I'm happy I'm clear now

My son was 4 when they tested him for TB for kindergarten. He rubbed his arm right after the test, and he showed a positive several days later. Without seeing him, the doctor wanted to put him on medicine right away. He didn't have any symptoms, and the doctor wasn't available to see him, so I switched to a different practice and the new doctor said it was probably caused by him scratching it. To be safe, they did get an x-ray, and he was fine. I'm glad I went with my instinct and didn't put him on any meds for something he didn't need. BTW, that was 31 years ago.
