Have you had anxiety after an IBS diagnosis?

Has anyone developed anxiety after being diagnosed with ibs? How was it treated?

Yes! I have all of it, anxiety, ibs, diarrhea, constipation, chronic pain, chronic fatigue. @caj- if i were you i would try some prescription anti anxiety medication. Once you feel mentally stronger, you can tackle some of the other challenges. I don’t like being on them, but i can’t function at all without them.

Do you mind telling us which anti-anxiety medication you take? (I take Klonopin and it only helps a little.)

@marilyncarkner - I wanted you to know I moved your post here to where others were previously talking about anxiety and IBS. Glad you've also connected with @susanblan and @h8bigbiz. I'd like to tag some of those who've previously been part of this discussion so that they can share with you how they've gotten their IBS to settle down with also having anxiety. Please meet @cindychesler @blackoutthesun @caj @guener. @jlharsh also may have some input for you.

Has anything you've tried so far helped your IBS at all, marilyncarkner?

Hi, @marilyncarkner. It sounds like you have tried a variety of things that have not helped with anxiety or Irritable Bowel (IBS). It can get deflating and I understand why you are looking for others that have had some success managing similar problems. You are in the right place!

You mention trying your latest treatment of a specific antibiotic from your Mum’s genes variety of protocols. I am curious what health issues she dealt with and what genes are involved.

Do you have confirmed genetics variants, and do you have other health challenges?

I saved the above comment and realized I had deleted part of what I had written. I will give it another go. (Uhg! It seems like re-doing something never ends up meeting the same quality as the first try, but here goes)

My digestion and anxiety have improved since I bought into my current care team’s process. My quality of life has improved. I have made continual incremental progress but it has been super slow. It has required implementing their medical recommendations, making lifestyle changes and addressing stress all at the same time. So to answer your question, yes I am someone that has found improvement. There has been no magic pill, no easy button.

I am happy to share anything that may help.

@h8bigbiz - for what it's worth, I thought I'd come in and mention that fluoxetine (Prozac), which my doctor prescribed when I was moving and it was bringing up lots of anxiety, helped me a lot to just return to feeling like my normal self. She did have to tweak the dose a bit (upward) to get it just right.

I do not have IBS.

Had severe bloating, gas, and sometimes cramping. Gastrologist no help. Read Dr Davis, Super Gut 4 week program. Bingo. All pretty much gone. Took SFI's Ther-Biotic Synbiotic, Digestive Advantage Intensive Bowel Support (for added probiotic recommended stains, and Jarrow Ideal Support, Lactobacillus plantarum 299v. Didn't do week 4 of program. I feel 100 percent better. Highly recommend all products he recommends.
