Anxiety and Depression

Posted by tmf0 @tmf0, Nov 24, 2018

For the last 10 weeks my anxiety and depression have been at a level that I’ve never experienced. My life has completely changed in such a short period of time. I am constantly nauseated, I hardly get out of bed, I have no desire to see or speak to anyone, my mind is continuously spinning with irrational thoughts, I even canceled Thanksgiving and I can go on & on. I just dont know how anyone can live like this. I’m not living but merely existing. It’s a battle every minute of every day. I just want to feel normal again.

I tried going for walks, stayed close to home but I would start to cry and I had to turn around and go home.

Yep. Me too. Think of crying as a good thing though. I always felt better, even if only a little bit, after crying. Are you under a doctors care?

I cry too much and too easily. Yes I’m under care and I’m taking medication.

@trellg132 How is it that you "don't feel like yourself"? Break down in what way? Are you keeping track of your emotions, perhaps by journaling? Has there been a change in your life recently that may be leading you to feel this way?

@trellg132 As our bodies and minds adjust to a new way to cope with life without the drug of choice that we had, whether it is alcohol, drugs, food, there are periods of wondering if it is worth it. Do you go to any 12-step meetings? Do you have a sponsor? Are you on any medications for your thoughts of depression. You know, even those of us who are not freshly sober, have up and down days! What have you done today that was positive? What are your plans for tomorrow, to interact in a positive way with the world around you?

It’s not you it’s withdrawal. I used meditation and exercise and yes, I cried several times a day. I could make myself cry whenever I wanted if I knew that I didn’t want to cry later. You will get through this. But, if it starts effecting those around you, please see a doctor and perhaps get some medical help while you ween.

@trellig132 I'm glad to hear you turned your life around to follow Christ but as God said we are partners with him and you have to do your part by being proactive in life just don't wait for Him to help you if you don't help yourself. Are you doing this ? He will help you but you have to help yourself also we are partners . So look to finding what makes you get depressed and anxious ,journal your throught as ginger said ,research your thoughts.

@trellg132 Yes, we often look to the internet to help us figure things out. But that can be dangerous, as you might be finding out. We read of some symptoms and it seems we are experiencing the same things, and we panic/get concerned and go into a tailspin. As @secretwhitepop suggested, meditation may help, along with some exercise, deep breathing, journaling, and generally caring for yourself in a loving manner, eating healthy, not beating yourself up, not looking for things that may not be there, Will you try this and let us know how you feel later?
