Anxiety
Anyone have any tips on dealing with the anxiety of being short of breath? I only recently started having symptoms from COPD and it’s unnerving!
Thanks,
Johnny

Hi Johnnydale. Sorry to hear about feeling short of breath and with anxiety at the same time. I was diagnosed last year with mild emphysema when my symptoms of short breathing sent me to ER. And I was with very bad anxiety. I spoke with my Psychiatrist and she
prescribed me klonopin 0.5 mg. This medication has made a big difference dealing with the anxiety. I take the symbicort twice a day and has helping me with the symptoms of short breathing. I hope my comment gives you some guidance. Speaking with you doctor may give you some alternatives.
Thanks, I really appreciate the info.
Have you learned about relaxation breathing. It has helped me for the last 4 years and I haven’t had to take medication for anxiety. I know I may have to in the future
Hi,
I do some deep breathing, not sure if that is classified as relaxation breathing? It does help when I have pain in the center of my chest related to the Emphysema.
Thanks,
Johnny
Morning,
My doc did not do a breathing test this year and I’m not real happy with him. I’ve received more information from this forum than him.
Thanks
I have to admit I am resentful of my length to diagnosis. I was told one year no bronchodilator response and no chief complaint. Went to another doctor 1 year later with a year of pneumonia no one could figure out. Then later went another place and found the pneumonia and asthma COPD overlap disease or and I also need oxygen.
There is plenty of breathing exercises online for you to access. The important ones are abdominal breathing which strengthens your chest muscles and learning to breath through your nose and out through your mouth
Hi, I appreciate the information, I will look into it.
Thanks,
Johnny
