Antibiotics for M. Abscessus
Hi everyone. Just want to say I'm getting so much out of these discussions and feel for everyone who is struggling! I'm wondering if anyone has been on IV Amikacin, IV Imipenem, oral Linezolid (or Tedizolid) and oral Omadacycline for an M. Abscessus infection. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences and outcomes.

Here is the latest guidelines from NJH - in an easy to digest video - that will wading through the technical paper @pacathy cited:
This one, like most NJH contains a lot of information, he talks specifically about M abscessus near the end of the video.

1 ReactionThank you Sue. I have a consult on treating abscesses tomorrow and this gives me a great list of questions. I looked back at my labs and there has only been the presence of abscesses and not the breakdown of colonies or genes etc. I hope the next lab goes to NJH.
I used Linezolid with Nuzyra when first treated in 2019 and then more recently starring in January. I worked full time but had some mild GI symptoms with round one. This time I was nearly bedridden because of the severe nausea and fatigue. This time I was also taking Cresemba for Aspergillus. At NJH both Nuzyra and Linezolid were stopped- turns out the latter was suppressing my bone marrow and causing serious neuropathy. Both got better within 1 week. So why did I do ok with the medications on round one but not round two? No good answer but it does point out that if you don’t feel like you have choices, you aren’t taking to the right doctors!
