Angiosarcoma of the breast caused by previous breast radiation

Posted by lee08 @lee08, Feb 28, 2023

I have recently been diagnosed with an angiosarcoma in my breast. The doctors say it was probably caused by previous radiation of that breast following a lumpectomy about 6 years ago. They tell me it is extremely rare. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of breast cancer?

Hi @lee08, in addition to @twinsisty1 and @dawnblair33, I'd like to tag @posi9 @jbeck7406 @imjazzco @sherirp who also have angiosarcoma as a result of or after having had breast cancer.

What is your current treatment plan?

I am going to have 12 weekly treatments of chemo, in addition to radiation for the last 6 of those weeks (ironic, I know, since radiation caused this) to shrink the tumor, and then a mastectomy. 🙏🏻

I too had 2 lumpectomy with radiation with both.
Two years apart.
2014 and 2016.
About 5 years later had a few discolored spot on my chest. My surgeon suspected this right away. I had a full mastectomy. The doctors had a meeting and decided no treatment. I have scan every 3 months plus blood work up. It’s been a year now and nothing has showed up. Will continue with
Scans and checkups.
Also have a skin doctor
Involved. Hoping for a good outcome for you.

I am encouraged by your text. I just had a mastectomy this month of my left breast for angiosarcoma. It was caused by the radiation treatment I had after a Lumpectomy for lobular breast cancer 3 and a half years ago. The current plan is observation along with scans and blood tests. I was hoping for this kind of follow-up rather then chemo or more radiation.
Prayers you will remain cancer free.

I had angiosarcoma in my upper right side chest-- but NOT breast!
Many years ago I had Melanoma in my right arm. No radiation, just extensive surgery.
My right arm has always been somewhat swollen, besides having a bad scar, I've always wondered if the melanoma was connected with the angiosarcoma. Never got a clear answer from any doctor!
