Have you been able to reverse Anemia of Chronic Disease (ACD)?

This has just been mentioned to me. From the little I have read, I think that my body may have a couple of causes. I am a senior well past menopause so rule out blood loss plus have had stool samples tested.
I do have seronegative rheumatoid arthritis that is being kept in check with weekly methotrexate injections followed the next day with Mint-leucovorin tablet and daily Folic acid tablets. Also take 6 Tylenol for arthritis daily.
I have had regular UTI for years with 2 hospitalizations for sepsis or border line sepsis. My kidneys wanted attention too. But are not as bad as they have been. My new urologist found that mesh from a TVT done many years ago had grown into my urethra. Removal of that stopped the infections for a few months but they are back.
Wondering which or both is the cause of the inflammation that is causing the ACD? I try to eat iron rich foods, take 320mg of iron daily but to no avail.
If you have had success in reversing ACD please tell me what you did.

I am sorry to hear of your health conditions and hope and pray they get better. Is your anemia due to low iron and perhaps also ferritin? This is not the cause of all anemias. If it is low and you need iron, consider taking iron with Vitamin C. YOU can google this. Also, there are two types of iron supplements which you doctor can explain and also tell you how much to take and when. I hope this helps. ❤

Thanks for your advice. As I mentioned, I do take 320mg of iron daily. I didn't detail the rest of the supplements
I use. I take Omega 3, probiotics, vitamin D3, B12, and C.
I will definitely review types of iron with my GP. Thanks for your help.

You’re welcome. I feel it’s important to know your vitamin D level figure out the goal of what you want the measurement to be and take the units that will get you there. We keep ours at about 60 and that requires 5000 units a day give or take.

Omega-3 oil we take them too. Because it is an oil and can go rancid we keep them in the refrigerator.

Believe in probiotics it’s just that there’s so many different strains so we also have a lot of different ferment vegetables and we drink kefir and yogurt.

The lab range for adequate vitamin B12 is huge. The important thing would be 12 is that it should be taken the sublingually in the or buy injection if one is low.

Best again

Ask for an RBC magnesium assay. Serum levels don't tell the whole story, not by a long shot.

Have you been tested for celiac disease? Unexplained anemia is a common symptom.

Hi, I hope you don’t mind me commenting but I just had to share that my husband also has had almost continual UTIs for almost two years and was recently hospitalized for it plus sepsis. He was in for 9 days and got so weak he needed rehab after as well. He is 75 and has MDS and also has anemia. He was on Luspatercept to increase his platelet and RBC but so far it has been ineffective and it has had side effects.

Anemia of chronic disease is related to chronic inflammation. It’s not caused by low iron although iron deficiency and ACD can coexist. ACD is best treated by treating the underlying conditions causing the inflammation. In your case I would suspect the RA more, as that is more of a constant and the UTIs are intermittent. It’s always good to have tests done for iron, ferritin (stored iron,) B12 and folate since the others are treatable. ACD is characterized by normal red blood cell size, the MCV on your CBC. What would we do without abbreviations? 😀
